the world of music was being over run with nu metal at the time of this albums release, so it makes perfect sense that a return to something different but safe was optioned by the record company. as here we have a very talented bunch of men, who sound like alice in chains covering metallica songs.
which personally i am very happy with as they are two of my favourite bands and these boys have twisted the sounds of these two bands ever so slightly by blending them together, the pained layne stayleyesque howl of sully erna lends itself so perfectly to the bastardised metallica rifs that the band are playing behind him.
despite(or because of) the abundant lack of originality this album is very easy to listen to and very enjoyable to ... Read More:

As always, Godsmack have released a corker of an album! If you're familiar with their music, you'll love this. If you're not, you're gonna be amazed. Their passion shines through in every track. Great sound! Buy it!!

godsmack always felt to me like they were always living in the shadow of alice in chains and up to this point had done very little to escape it.
acknowledged the previous albums were erratically brilliant and in faceless they wrote the best album metallica never got around to making but again they still seemed to be struggling to be themselves......but here they have done that and more.
yet again they have tweeked their sound slightly and evolved a little more into a fully fledged heavy rock band
the guitars are lower in the mix but the licks are still killer and sully puts in a fantastic performance
its still pretty damned heavy but there is more groove to this work than previously and it softens the blow of the guitars ... Read More:

Agonizing an articulate remonstration of machevellian stoicism, the album proports an idealistic tragedy of Macbethian proportions. At times subtle, at times extravagant, its pheneric essence is disturbed only by its melencholy. Texturely euphoric, the band attain almost diagnostic applomb..........fill ya boots!

When this cd arrived, I was slightly disappointed, as up to that point I didn't know that this was an acoustic set. But I was very impressed after just one listen. The first 6 tracks are brilliant. The last track, however, I am not so impressed with, as it sounds like they almost killed their classic track 'Awake'. Overall - a really good buy and addition to my Godsmack collection. If you like Godsmack, or just like acoustic rock, this cd will not disappoint. If you like both - buy it now!

I brought this album on the strength of hearing 'Serenity' by the group, and not knowing what to expect, I initially listened to the album with an open mind. To me, it seemed that Serenity was only a tiny branch of what Godsmack are capable of successfully producing. There's such diversity and and different qualities to each song, you can't get bored of this too quickly. This is true, right from the adrenalin pumped 'I can take on the world' song of 'Straight Out Of Line' to the soothing sounds of the African Jungle brought to us in 'The Awakening'. There really is something for every mood in this album - hell, I even found myself humming 'I [Enter rude word here beginning with 'F']'ing Hate You' after I lost my job ! I was amazed at how quick ... Read More:
