New track "Gone To Earth" is, by comaprison, a bit underwhelming.

Twist

I just adore 'Lovely Head' by Goldfrapp, it is one of my all-time favourite tracks. So I was really pleased when I found out they were supporting Duran Duran on some of their 2004 dates. As a warm-up act they were excellent. One track that particularly caught my attention was their hard, electro version of Yes Sir I Can Boogie (a childhood favourite from the 70's). Well re-imagined and with a drive and a menace to it that I like. This track was not on the Black Cherry album, hence purchasing the single. But worth the extra expense..

Goldfrapp are of the same creed as groups such as Lemon Jelly, Zero 7 and Portishead, offering up what is the arguably more intelligent side to modern dance music. New single 'Train' sees movement away from their earlier slightly more chilled-out, experimental works, while still remaining impressively innovative - dirty electronic bass lines drive the song forward while the relatively mellow, sensual vocals provide a good contrast. Very glam, very sexy, defiantly not your ordinary type of dance music, but defiantly the type that makes you want to move.

First things first, it has to be said Goldfrapp really put the effort into making their music the complete package. The single's artwork is gorgeous and reminscent of Madonna's 'Ray Of Light' and in an essence, much of A&E borrows from that album too - that masterful intertwining of gentle acoustic guitar and subtle electronics. Alison's vocals are just amazing and by the time the final chorus comes round this song just leaves you breathless.

The Gui Boratto remixes will please fans of the 'Supernature' Goldfrapp, returning to that sound of pulsating bass and crisp beats. The vocal works just as well in this more uptempo working of the song and comes across as a hauntingly teasing whisper in the dub. ... Read More:

Like other Goldfrapp single releases you don't really get what you want: on this release you'll find the video for their previous single, "Twist", and a fantastic remix of same, but only a remix of "Black Cherry" (again, great) and a pretty ordinary live video of "Black Cherry". Apart from the live video the content is great, but you have to hunt down other unrelated single releases if you want all the mixes of a particular song. I understand this is a ploy to buy all the releases, but it actually made me decide on just one, and this is it (apart from, of course, the Mute US maxi of "Strict Machine" - but where's the video on that?!).
