Imagine a motorway pile up between T rex, donna summer's love to love you, dubnobass era underworld, gary glitter, early 80's synth tunes like Warm Leatherette, Morton Sherman and Belluci's Belgian New Beat and Blondie's rapture. Add a pinch of je ne sais quoi and you have the years sexiest record. If it doesn't make you tap your toe or more to the point feel horny in a rather wicked way, then you are probably dead or someone who owns a Nissan Micra and a Michael Bolton CD.

I used to find Goldfrapp's leftover from a Parisienne spy movie schtick a little tiresome after about half a track, despite the wicked chord changes. Their evolution is a revelation.

Happiness

The 1st review sums it up excellently. It stands out from the other songs on 'Seventh Tree' and is by far the best track on the whole album. I don't like comparisons with other musicians as I think Goldfrapp are way out there, on their own and vocally Allison doesn't have any contemporaries who can match her warm, mellow and beautiful voice. The lyrics are fun, the tune jolly but catchy and the unfortunate thing is that the track is only 4 minutes long. Last night, as Happiness played, I danced like a maddie round my living room as my long-suffering girlfriend could only cringe in horror. Just wonderful.

Yes this is "that" tune you hear in the "Clive the liar" section on BBC 3's Monkeydust cartoon.

The whistling is just so eerie, and the vocals by Alison only add to the overall haunting feeling this record brings upon you.

A truly awesome song from a superb group.

Utopia

The cover image, taken from a Paul Outerbridge photograph, reflects nicely on the ideas conveyed in the lyrics: the elusive aspirations of the American Dream. This is not only a beautiful track but also a clever one. The ideas are expressed smoothly and ironically by the sounds and the vocal style. This is an exceptional piece of work and its nice to see a bit of quality illuminating the musical spectrum once again!
