Beautiful! I think it mustve been Elvis Costello covering some of Gram's songs on that album 'Almost Blue' and after hearing Gram Parsons original versions it knocked Elvis flying out of the CD player!
'How much Ive Lied' Song for you' If you like decent country music you have to by this! Even if you don't the tunes and his voice are amazing!

I cannot rate this album highly enough. This man died before his time and would, no doubt, have gone on to produce more work of the highest quality. If you love REALLY GOOD country/country rock music (i.e.American!) you can't do better than this - tracks 2 and 8 are heartbreakers. BUY IT!!

This post-humous collection of Gram Parsons recordings was originally released in 1976 - 3 years after his death. 9 tracks are Flying Burrito Brothers recordings from early 1970 and 3 tracks were recorded during the "Grievous Angel" sessions. The 3 later tracks are duets with Emmylou Harris.
There are no Parsons originals included. The Burritos were planning to record a whole album of "pure and honest" country music. Most tracks are pleasant, but nothing extraordinary.
Parsons had a good voice for country music, but this collection does not give the answer to how he could become a legend in country-rock. There are some fine vocal harmonies with Chris Hilmann and with Emmylou Harris things rarely go completely wrong. ... Read More:

Gram Parsons was always going to burn out rather than fade away, and when he did the sensational manner and events surrounding his demise, and his reputation as a dilettante playboy, threatened to overshadow his musical vision and legacy. There's no doubt that he changed the face of popular music, particularly at the country end of the spectrum, and if you harbour any doubt of this, then this double CD is the place to put your doubts to rest.
Disc one begins with half a dozen examples of his work with the International Submarine Band, mostly singles from the album Safe At Home, made for Lee Hazlewood's LHI label, released in 1967, and one previously unheard rehearsal take from the album sessions. Already his template of "Cosmic American ... Read More:

This 2 cd set was recorded at the Avalon Ballroom San Francisco in April 1969 while the Burrito's were support act to the Grateful Dead. Never released to the public before, the tapes of the two concerts (April 4 and April 6 1969) had been locked in the Dead's extensive vault for nearly 40 years under the watchful eye of Owsley Stanley aka Bear.... (The excellent booklet (luxury) liner notes will describe in detail the effort made to secure their release...The 2 cds come in a small beautiful hardback booklet design including some never seen before photos - at first i found it difficult to remove the cds as the sleeves were too tight...but i managed to carefully insert my finger(after removing cds) and expand them without tearing and now its a breeze...but ... Recorded between the GP and Grevious Angel albums, the songs on the album are a mix of tracks from GP and covers. Whilst this doesn't include alot of my fave Gram tracks, the performances are great - the band sound like they're really enjoying themselves and the vocals are fabulous. I prefer this to GP.
Some of the patter gets a little irritating (although that's always a down side of live albums) but most of these interludes are pretty short, so I can live with that.

different from his regular recordings but v. good nevertheless. its just him and an acoustic guitar, and its less country than most of his stuff, some r+b ish folk blues and your average singer songwriter fare. it sounds quir=te a bit like some buffalo springfield accoustic material if youve heard any of that. Not much in common with the emmy lou era, but still reccomended.

I'd agree with T D Clifton's review elsewhere on this page entirely, but will add that despite quite a number of Parsons anthologies, there is still some seminal stuff unreleased:
Perhaps future compilers will acquire the three or four songs a prototype lineupm of the Burritos recorded while Parsons and Hillman were still in The Byrds. These sessions also featured Clarence White (who had played sessions with the Byrds and joined after Gram left) and Gene Parsons (no relation to Gram), who also joined The Byrds just before Chris Hillman left to join Gram in the 'Gilded Palace of Sin' Burritos. These recordings are especially important in the light of White's presence and the fact that Gene Parsons later joined the Burritos for 'Flying Again', their most underrated ... Read More:
