Im amazed at how cheap these albums are as the musicianship and technical skill are so impressive. Grant Green's guitar with the vibraphone works beautifully tonally and melodically. An album for a jazz fan.

Recorded on November 16, 1964, Grant Green's "Street of Dreams" is the third of four Blue Note albums featuring the guitar-organ trio of Grant Green, Larry Young and drummer Elvin Jones. The first album, Grant Green's "Talkin' About," featured only the aforementioned trio, but on the other three dates, a different musician was brought in for each session to form memorable quartets. Larry Young's "Into Somethin'" featured Sam Rivers on tenor sax, Grant Green's "I Want To Hold Your Hand" included Hank Mobley, and "Street of Dreams" benefited from the contributions of Bobby Hutcherson on vibes. The combinations the "Street of Dreams" quartet came up with are truly magical -- Green's smooth ... Read More:

Very mellow, very cool and very retro - If you're unfamiliar with Mr.Green, you may be surprised as many of the beats have been sampled, or will be familiar from TV advertising and period dramas....

This double c.d session with pianist Sonny Clark sees both men in prime form which is jazz at it's very best.Joined by a stellar rhythm section - Sam Jones(bass) and either Art Blakey or Louis Hayes on drums they breeze through one standard after another with Green displaying that virtuoso, heavy picking, groove orientated style of playing that made him pretty unique in jazz circles.Clark also has many fine solos gradually building them in that logical, melodical style of his that became a trademark. All tracks are at least 5 minutes long, with most in the 5-7 minute category that gives the soloists plenty of time to stretch out and create worthwhile solos and none morso than the 10 minute version of "it 'ain't necessarily so" on which Green delivers ... This 1970 live recording of guitarist Grant Green and his combo is thanks to its three bonus tracks an acid jazz classic. The choice of 4 recent soul and funk hits is excellent and Green's funky jazz guitar picks alternate with the soulfull organ and are underpinned by the powerhouse drumming of Idris Muhammad. The other tracks are a bit more jazzy but feature a great version of Herbie Hancock's Maiden voyage and a melancholic Time to remember with excellent vibes. A midprice best buy (so worth a fifth star).

One of the first Grant Green albums that I owned and it is certainly one of his best. The music and musicianship on this album is enthralling. This album has everything, especially being a live album and listening to the crowd really getting heated up. Grant was a very special guitarist who happened to be one of George Benson's favourites and this album demonstrates his great wide ranging abilities.
Flood in franklin Park and Jan Jan are probably the two tracks that stand out most but that is not to underestimate any of the other tracks which cook. There is even a nice version of Donaly Byrd's Fancy Free and a brilliant version of Betcha by Golly Wow. Buy it and appreciate it.
The only downside is that they were unable to incorporate ... Read More:
