this is probably the deads best studio album, i personally prefer them live, but this is fantastic.
6 of the 10 songs are top class and the other 4 are good too.
uplifting, blissful, soulful and lifts my spirit.

The Very Best Of Grateful Dead

While shaving I noticed a few more grey hairs, so I started singing 'Touch of Grey'. I saw this CD on here so splased out. This is fantastic, joyful music, also the musicianship isn't half bad as well. So my advice - skip the hair dye, buy this CD it will make you feel much better in the long run.

Being my third Dead collection, and it's two decades on from the other two. And it shows. The sound is somehow richer, and there are synths to supplement the other keyboards. This gives the possibility of a wider range of effects - what sounds like a trumpet on Deal, Andean pipes on Playing In The Band. It also makes possible the synth-dominated Space, which maybe suggests that the members of the band were not entirely "substance free".

So although there are enough differences to avoid the accusation of resting on laurels, the Dead are still the Dead. So in amongst the new songs such as the excellent opener, Picasso Moon, there are Dead standards like Uncle John's Band, Playing In The Band (twice) and, of course, Dark Star, also ... Read More:

Live/Dead: Remastered

Every song in this album deserves very close listening and appreciation whether you are a deadhead (i consider myself one but only til very recently after acquiring many of their albums), a fan of acid and the whole 60s movement, jazz, blues, rock, folk fan, or just a simple music fan, this album appeals to all and invites to take in a magical voyage of sounds pleasures and pains of all the members of the band. All of them get their shining moment even though it is fair to say Jerry takes most of the spotlight and does it with such amazing feel to what he is playing it is just a pleasure to listen on whatever level you want to hear it.

I just hope you can enjoy it as much as i can!

IF YOU LOOK AT IT RIGHT! ... It could be an illusion, but I might as well try. That line from Scarlett Begonias always stood out. When I bought this as a teenager in the 70's, I was just becoming a big Dead fan and had recently been blown away by the trippiest concert I had ever seen. I slowly began moving in (to the MARS HOTEL) and became the guest who never left - the lizard on the wall, just hangin' out with the band. A few other DEAD recordings were earliest favorites, but it didn't take long for this one to become a regular spin, and it always gave me a welcome lift (still does). I wouldn't ever WANT to leave!

Workingman's Dead

The Dead had been know as the house band for Kesey's acid tests. Now here they are playing Red-Kneck music?? Well, not quite - the Grateful Dead were purveyors of American music, be it folk, blues or whatever. They did, however, always retain the essential element for any group of musicians - they always sounded like the Grateful Dead. Having heard Working Man's Dead, I went along to see them in London (at the Lyceum) hardly expecting to hear songs from this album played live - Uncle John's Band and Casey Jones were not songs I expected to hear them play live but there they were, and with near perfect (for the Dead) harmonies.
This is one of the essential GD recordings, along with... well, that's always a difficult one with so many being essential.

Apparently,that was the first title for this album,now available with added wonders for the CD release.It works really well,having space for the country-influenced("Cumberland Blues","He's Gone")rockers("Tennesee Jed",the late lamented Pigpen("Mr.Charlie"),long improvs("Truckin'"),just about all aspects of the Dead c.1972.
My favourites are "China Cat Sunflower/I Know You Rider",and "Sugar Magnolia",with a wonderful"Sunshine Daydram" accapella finale.Buy!!

Steppin' Out With the Grateful Dead: Live in England 1972

What we have here seems to be high times for The Grateful Dead. Pigpen still with them and Keith and Donna had just got on board. First thing noticed about this very generous 4CD set is the excellent sound quality (this is 1972 remember) and how seemless it all flows, selections having been recorded at four different venues over a total of seven gigs.
The band's enthusiasm for and committment to the many song and diverse musical forms they tackle comes over well. There's so much to get into ; blues, country tunes, original songs some then newish to the reportoire.
"Dark Star" is very present and correct running some 31 minutes, as is "The Other One" jam which surprisingly, and yet feeling so right, takes in Marty Robbin's "El Paso" on the way. Yes, ... Read More:

Wake of the Flood: Remastered & Expanded

I bought this because I wanted to hear this astonishingly beautiful music all over again. I still have the original vinyl album ( which I bought when it was first released) up my loft but I thought it was time I had the music on CD. I wasn't disappointed although I wouldn't have noticed it was a "remastered" version. It does sound very similar to the original mix, in my opinion. I have really enjoyed hearing this music all over again. As for the "extras" which are thrown in, well, they are a decidedly mixed bag... - although Weir's demo of "Weather Report Suite" is interesting in its own way. His ( overdubbed?) acoustic guitar work is really excellent.
