Stop Drop And Roll!!!

It would be easy to dismiss this album as nothing more than a homage to Sixties British Pop. OK, so there are some obvious influences, most noteably, the Kinks, the Stones & the Who and there is an unmistakeble 60s retro feel to the whole album but the standard of the songs is exceptionally high and Green Day still manage to maintain their distinctive sound. Indeed they should be applauded for rather than taking the easy route and following up the very polished American Idiot album with a carbon copy they have gone for a more basic back to their roots approach in true punk rock style.

International Superhits

'International superhits', (like most bands best of's), is probably the best place to start with Green Day if you're new to their music and want to hear more. You get a pretty good selection of their hits, as well as some more obscure stuff. At 21 tracks, this album has plenty to offer and I defy anyone to put on 'Basket Case' or 'When I Come Around' and not crack into a big grin. This album showcases what a good rock band should be, simple, loud and fun. You can't ask for much more than that. Well worth a try.

Dookie

It's the first time I've revisited this album for a while. I don't really think of myself as a Green Day fan anymore, but this was the first record of theirs that I heard. I then bought them all up to, and including Warning (which I thought was terrible). I won't be buying American Idiot.

So I just thought I'd peruse the reviews while listening to it; there's a lot of talk of punk, but I don't see anyone mentioning The Clash anywhere... or any of Green Day's predecessors. That really shows the generation that Green Day appealed to. I'm pretty sure I was 16 or 17 when this came out, and it became standard listening for myself and all my friends. Bullet in a Bible [CD + DVD]

"Dookie", when it came out, reminded me of early Who, who were a local group where I grew up. After hearing the CD, especially the cover of The Isley Brothers/Lulu's "Shout", in the light of their own "rock opera", "American Idiot", I wonder how they would do "Tommy". It's certainly, to me at least, an interesting proposition. How about it?

Nimrod

This album is amazing!!!! I bought the album AMERICAN IDIOT back in 2004 and loved it - my favourite album EVER. So I decided to invest in some other albums that Green Day have made.
This album has lots of amzing songs on it, he best being 'Good Riddance(Time Of Your Life)'. 'Scattered' is a cool little pop-rock tune with an excellent chorus. The song 'Take back' is one of the grittiest songs Green Day have done with the lead singer verging on screaming during certain parts of the song. 'King For A Day' provides a song with refreshingly different lyrics and a good chorus.

Warning

I'm afraid this is not Green Day's best album and will split many Green Day fans down the middle. It's certainly more 'Radio friendly' and different from the other Green Day albums, but it's not heavy enough IMO. My favourite track is 'Minority' which is what Green Day's music WAS always about!

Shenanigans

I bought this because I love the music, being advertised as b-sides and rarities sings out this is a load of old stuff put on an album to make a bit of extra cash, not the case, an excellent collection of tracks mixed together in what appears to be comedic stylie! Top stuff and Ha ha your dead finishes it with style!

Insomniac

How do you follow up a million selling album? This is a question that many bands have to ask themselves once they make it big - Green Day had followed two independent albums with Dookie, a multi-platinum monster and a show-stealing appearance at Woodstock 1994. A lesser band would mess around for a few years, add an orchestra and release a bloated, rubbish follow-up.

Green Day went the opposite route - perhaps stinging from some hardcore fans' accusations of selling out, within a year of Dookie, the band recorded and released Insomniac, an altogether darker, nastier album. American Idiot [Special Edition CD + DVD]

If you're considering this, chances are you already have the normal version of American Idiot, which is always gonna get 5 stars without any extras. So, is it worth buying this if you already have it?

Not really. The documentary is pretty meh, and only 2 of the 5 videos are included. Why not include Wake me up when September ends? How about my personal favourite, Jesus of Suburbia, which gets horribly censored whenever shown on TV? Don't forget, there's also a video of the title track, American Idiot, that should have gone on the DVD too.

Worse, you dont even get the video tracks uncut. The word "fags" in Holiday gets the silent treatment. It says "parental advisory" on the cover, they wouldn't dream of censoring the audio CD (thankfully) ... Read More:
