Release Date July 31, 2001
Being quite a big reggae fan, I was very excited by hearing this album. I was new to Groundation, but having heard them, I am suprised that they are not much, much bigger. The album is forward thinking in a genre that sometimes tends to look backwards for ideas rather than for new ones. The vocalist, Harrison Stafford is fantastic, with a gravally sounding voice that uses toneful screeches and wailing to liven up the sound. The percussion and instrumentation are particually unique, with the former sounding almost African in places. Using instruments rare to reggae such as a real piano in a very subtle way adds to the suprise. The rest of the instrumentation is similar to the wailers, but there is one major difference - The length of the ... Read More:

Groundation's new dub album lets us clearly see (hear actually) that true rasta soul knows no color of
skin nor place of birth. These white guys from california have made it conscious and convincing once again.
Their singer and lead guitarist Harrison Stafford reads a course on reggae music history at San Diego University.
"Dub Wars", being the fifth release by Groundation, features ten equally brilliant tracks from their previous albums
"Hebron Gate" and "We Free Again", now clad in the garments of hypnotically flowing dub. Sound follows the
golden traditions of Lee "Scratch" Perry, plus some jazzy-feeling horns and enchanting, witch-like vocals and ever-solid baselines.
