An album that still delivers decades later has surely passed the test of time and entered into the all time greats. Check out YouTube for some nice live videos. As they say if it ain't broke don't fix it.

Back in the dark days of the early 1970s, as a callow youth just having started college, and already set in my musical tastes (basically Bowie and nothing else), I roundly poopooed my younger brother's propensity for what I thought was plain "Weird" Music (Van Der Graaf Generator, Colosseum, The Groundhogs et al), whilst at the same time sneaking a listen whenever he wasn't around.
What was I thinking of? With the benefits of age, experience and a solid burst of nostalgia, also via the fantastic medium of Compact Audio Disc, I have revisited all the old haunts of my youth (in a musical respect), and have been surprisingly delighted by the quality of the work passing through my ears.

I bought this in 1970 along with Led Zeppelin 2 after seeing the drummer with a bandaged head on Old Grey Whistle Test or a similar show. They played Eccentric Man. Terrific lyrics. The Zeppelin record swiftly got forgotten about in the wake of this great work. In fact Zeppelin got melted down as I recall - garbage. But I digress - the cover of TCFTB was great (with the heads morphed onto an existing photo from WW1). And the inside with poppies being dropped on the multitude. Didn't really need the record - the cover was almost enough. And the funny old geezer on the back!! What!!??? Fantastic!
Very fitting. The musical ideas were far in advance of most other rock around at the time. Great lyrics too - don't yer know!!! It was ... Read More:

Like so many "Best of" collections, this one only covers one period: it does not include anything from their later work - most notably nothing from Solid. Hence the 4 stars rather than 5.
That aside it does contain some excellent stuff and is a good introduction to the Groundhogs and the genius that is Tony T S McPhee.
There is a lot of tracks from the groundbreaking Split album: Cherry Red, Split Parts 1,2 & 4, and the eponymous Groundhog. Personally I feel they sound better in context - see the excellent reviews of Split on Amazon.
So if you were into the Groundhogs in the early 70s, you may be better off buying Split & Thank Christ for the Bomb. If you found the Groundhogs later on, then this is an ... Read More:

I still have this superb album on vinyl and wanted it on cd for a while now.
picked up Split and Thank Christ fairly easily but had to get Hogwash from the US and I am very pleased with the purchase and the company I bought it from.
The Groundhogs never got the recognition they deserved and in a way that is quite nice because they were always a proper underground band.
Always preferred the underground side of music personally - my other great fave is Hawkwind (1969 - 1975 Liberty/United Artists era).
I do wonder if a more 'official' release will have any bonus material like the other cd's but more the moment I am more than content with this brilliant cd.
Release Date August 13, 2001
I witnessed this band live on the solid tour, with special guests ,Stray. And I still remember myself and two friends hanging out round the back waiting to see if we might be able to meet the bands. Luckily we did get Tony, Pete and clives autograph. Clive the new drummer who`d been with Egg! like no comparison. Live the groundhogs plugged a lot of this album and it went down really well with us Portsmouth guildhall fans. I`d say it was crisp, fresh hard rock and Tony Mcphee`s guitar work just gets better and better! brilliant

The Groundhogs, Live 1971 special guests of the Rolling Stones, its true this trio rocked and for a CD to have only five tracks you know ( dont you!) that we get a rip roaring guitar fest. Tony McPhee is another overlooked superb guitarist.. great stuff
Release Date January 24, 2005
Tony McPhee guitarist, vocalist, writer, producer, engineer, keyboard player. He can do almost anything when it comes to putting out a Groundhogs album, here remastered are two at times softer almost pop rock productions, the sharp edge is still glistening but one eye seems to be mellow. these are still terrific rock records but the foot on the gas has been ever so slightly lifted..
Release Date February 19, 1996
.....but why has no one commented on the idiotic(record company) front cover? A 'Groundhog' is a woodchuck/beaver, and most definitely NOT a pig (sorry 'Hog'!). Ken Pustelnik's drum kit on the inside cover of Split shows a Groundhog (and it's not a hog (sorry 'pig'!).
Errr.... Groundhog Day.... Punxsutawney Phil 'The Seer of Seers'?
This set is awesome, especially TCFTB,and Split(and BDD).That 3 people can make this much sound is REALLY unbelievable, and the sublime Split Part Two will be with me for ever, after it was played ,speakers out of the window, full volume, Sunday morning during a church service at a certain public school in Somerset in 1971. In 'IF' they had guns , we had the Groundhogs.......
