Everything you would want as in introduction to Vaughan Williams is here and it sounds fabulous. Whilst not my favourite recording of "The Lark Ascending", its still a treat and more than compensated for by the magnificent recordings of the "English Folk Suite" and "Oboe Concerto".
Disc 2 is just a sheer delight from start to finish. Every track is sublime and you couldnt ask for a better selection of Vaughan Williams on 2 discs. The only comparison I can draw is the "Abba Gold" collection. Thats how good Vaughan Williams and this cd is. Just buy it and enjoy England's finest composer. It makes my day better whenever I put it on.

If you only buy one H&O this is probably the best. The lyrics are actually worth listening to and its great to listen to while sitting on a coach or train on a long journey, on your own and pretending you have/had a life ...

There are so many good recordings of "Aida" available and I own - and play - eight of them, but I keep coming back to this one as my favourite. This might partly be for purely personal reasons: it was one of the first sets I bought when as a nineteen year old I was just discovering opera and I still recall the sense of transported wonder I first experienced listening to that magical, moonlit Nile music; then just after that I was able to hear most of the artists on this recording live at Covent Garden and that cemented my preference for this version. Even though Caballe did not much look the part of a lissom Ethiopian princess, her voice did all the work as she spun those delicate pianissimi to every corner of the auditorium. And those almost unearthly ... Read More:

This emotive collection of music expertly portrayed, stirs memories of my time playing within a similar band many years ago. The crisp hair raising tingle that accompanies such delivery will never leave me. Priceless.

Other reviews will tell you of the close links (well documented with this double disc) of the light music pieces on this splendid compilation with famous radio and television shows of the (our? certainly my)past. What they don't mention is that a lot of these recordings have simply not been available to the public, but came from music publishers catalogues and CDs (the Bosworth discs are good).
The source material is superb here, the quality fantastic...
These are discs to be sought and savoured.
They truly do not compose or perform music like this any more.

At the time of writing, my knowledge of jazz is sporadic at best. I am slowly building up my jazz collection, which includes classics from Coltrane, Miles Davis, Mingus, Adderley and others. I think I can safely say, though, that UNDERCURRENT is the current "hot ticket" out of all my jazz discs.
The execution of these tunes couldn't be more minimal - just Evans' piano and Hall's guitar vibing off each other. The results could not be more perfect. Hall picks away effortlessly at his strings, making the guitar murmur softly one moment then chug away rhythmically the next. Evans' piano is lyrical and sublime - I've never heard such charismatic ivory tickling! I was chilling to this disc the other day, nodding my head to this oh-so-natural music and wishing ... Note - this is a re-packaging of the earlier Ultimate Daryl Hall and John Oates. The track listing is identical.
Daryl Hall and John Oates are generally classified as white soul singers but this description is too simplistic - they adapted their style to suit changing musical fashions. This double CD shows just how varied their music was. While they had six number one hits (Rich girl, Kiss on my list, Private eyes, I can't go for that no can do, Man-eater, Private eyes, Out of touch) and many other big hits in their American homeland, they never came close to that level of success internationally. In Britain, they had just two top ten hits (I can't go for that no can do, Man-eater) with nothing else getting close although they had plenty of minor hits while Paul ... Read More:
