It is clear from reading other reviews on Amazon and elsewhere that people have mixed feelings about this collection. Some would have an album of entirely new recordings (and maybe more original songs and fewer covers) while others would have preferred an album comprising entirely re-issues. Perhaps it was decided that this compromise would suit everybody. Certainly, I'd been expecting a compilation of Cliff's duet hits ever since the release of his 6-CD boxed set (Singles collection), which contained every British solo single that Cliff had recorded up to that point, but noticeably avoided all the duets. The Guitar Man

A new Hank album is always someting to be eagerly anticipated and then enjoyed many times over. With Guitar Man it's all a bit of an anti climax as the choice of material lets it down. Hanks ability to uniquely interpret a great tune is second to none but there are very few great tunes in this set. The highlight track for me is 8 million bicycles, but i'm a great Katie M fan anyway. So a technically great performance, but a poor choice of tracks.

The Solid Gold Collection

This is a great compilation from a great guitarist and deserves to be treated with respect as it has great hits and instrumentals that sound great like Road Train.

Guitar Ballads

I was delighted with this CD. It shows Hank at his best doing the songs (ballads) that I like. Well chosen songs and well recorded. I love it and so does my wife who plays some tracks over and over. It makes me want to pick up the guitar and work at it again!

Well done Hank, we love ya mate. From an Aussie just like you.

Marvin Welch and Farrar/Second Opinion

This release contains the first two albums by Marvin, Welch & Farrar plus 2 non-album tracks 'Marmaduke' and 'Strike A Light' and 4 tracks from the Hank Marvin & John Farrar album. Everything about these songs is excellent: instrumental work, vocals, and production. Whenever I listen to these tracks I'm amazed they weren't more commercially successful. They certainly deserved to be. No popular music from the 70's is better. As a sidelight, we have the misnaming, once again, of the song 'My Home Town'. Here it is called 'My Home Train'.

Hank Marvin

I have been through four or five versions of this album, starting with the original vinyl in 1969. I wouldn't be without it.
This is Hank at his very best - superb selection of material from various sources (including his own work), brilliant guitar work with a big and atmospheric backing that really works.
Sacha tops the lot - and Hank was still playing it up to his final tour.
Surely Hank's best work since the Shadows in 1960 / 62 - if not ever!

Marvin Welch and Farrar

This well-played, well-sung album still delights after all these years. It's amazing how it all works so well together. It does sound a bit dated now (it has been 30 years, after all), but the vocal harmonies and instrumental work still bring a smile. This album is the real thing. Wish I could give more than 5 stars!
