This beautfully timed record stands shoulder to shoulder with, "No room for squares," as the classic in Mobley's body of work.
Hank's sweet, soulful sax effortlessly hums along on the operner and,"This I dig of you," accompanied by Chambers bass that just pings. Blakey had perfected his technique at this point and was at the very height of his powers, he works with the rest of the rhythm section like a magnificent steam train.

This deserves a review. Not as highly rated it seems as Soul Station but to me his best work. Why?
- Lee Morgan (top trumpet player on hot form)
- Compositions - brilliant, shared by Mobley / Morgan
- themes - memorable
- solos - consistently on the money
- Hill AND Hancock on keys - nice contrast
- Philly on sticks
- Great funky be-bop and gorgeous Carolyn ballad
- CD clocks in at over 50 minutes (including 2 obligatory alternative tracks)
- unbelievably cheap (at present moment)
Oh, and almost forgot, leader Hank's fantastic tone and groove on tenor. The players all sound like they're enjoying these sessions and the ideas being swapped are truly inspiring. One of my top ten Blue Notes. ... Read More:

For all Tenor players, all saxophone players musicians and jazz fans. Mobley is a genius on the tenor Saxophone. This album is another prime example of his style and unique sense of rhythm. At times gives the impression of breaking from his style momentarily into another with regard to bop rhythm. Not only is this album Hip it is the definition of what Hard Bop is.A lot of post bop players get a little confused when describing their Art form. This is great stuff but can be very deceiving. Every modern jazz fan should have a lot of Hank Mobley, a sense of underlying authority and drive.Excellent recording.
