Once again the legacy of Hank Williams senior is in good hands. Hank III is back with an amazing new album. Backed with the truly legendary Johnny Hilland on guitar producing the most amazing Chicken Pickin guitar he is known for. Never better displayed than in the anthem P.F.F.

First track Grand Ole Opry sums the thinking of Hank, being his disdain for the whole country industry as it stands today. Reinstate Hank Williams people!

The flavours of the proceeding tracks carry on with the thinking of this man, anti-establishment, drug taking, generally getting messed up for the sake of it. But it all is in good fun really, apart from the sombre track Candidate For Suicide, which I personally hope he doesn't believe.

This excellent compilation, with all of its tracks recorded in a brief, artistically fruitful six-year span, is lavished with sad but beautiful music. Loneliness is a key theme running through Williams work. Merely reciting some of the song titles demonstrates that: `'Nobody's Lonesome For Me', `Long Gone Lonesome Blues' and `(I Heard That) Lonesome Whistle'. The music and words also speaks of an inner sense of despondency; you can see that in the confessional lyrics of `I'll Never Get Out Of This World Alive', which read like a suicide note, and you can hear and feel it in heartfelt vocal performances that express failure (`I Just Don't Like This Kind Of Living') and futility (`My Son Calls Another Man Daddy').

Lovesick, Broke and Drifting [Us Import]

I first heard this album from my brother since then my life has changed for good. this was the best music that I heard in years. When everthing that was coming out of the raido was the same. any way I think personaly that he is one of the best musicans since his graddad. If you have a chance to see him live, accoriding to my brother you should do it.

Hank III continues his transition and journey after finally gettin the legalitys sorted to release the follow up to his last LP Straight to Hell. Straight to Hell being a hard act to follow as is set the standard, sticking to tranditional roots but amplifiying them to 10 and coating it in outlaw fashion. Dont get me wrong Hank III us not Hank Sr, both have a array of talent in songwriting and tradition but what makes III different is he focus's on his outlaw persona as well as the traditional lonesome blues heard on song "I Wish I Knew" for example. I must mention Hank III is very explicit at times and may not be for everyone but past that it all makes for another masterpiece. I discovered Hank III through his sterling work as bassist with Superjoint Ritual. Having long been a closet country fan, I decided to check out his albums when I read that he did country/'Hellbilly' shows in the US with his band, Assjack. I have to say I was pleasantly surprised and hooked from day one. More upbeat than his later album 'Lovesick, Broke and Driftin', 'Rasin' Outlaw' has it all - baleful country ballads, foot tapping Honky Tonk and fantastic steel guitars and fiddles. Hank's voice may be a bit nasal for some but it suits the mood perfectly and can express all kinds of emotion, from yearning and lonesome to downright dirty.
