Evocative of autumn walks in fields and woods - I grew up in a small Cheshire village and The Pearl always takes me back to that place. My only bugbear is that some of the pieces aren't longer but I guess that's due partly to the media of the time being vinyl/cassette. A gem.
Release Date June 18, 2007
Robin and Harlod are a perfect combination for a music. (something like Fripp and Sylvian). After a splendid Mysterious Skin, now they present a 2 albums with splendid 18 tracks with beautiful poetry for your soul. If you like Mysterious Skin and The Moon and the Melodies then this is a realy fantastic gift for their fans.
Release Date September 27, 2004
I agree with the previous reviewer that this is possibly the most beautiful album ever made - I remember buying this along with '4th World Possible Musics' (Hassell/Eno) the day they came out, and they are both still in my top 5 favourite albums.
Essentially this is a Harold Budd album (as '4th World' is essentially a Jon Hassell album)but Eno's treatments and production are central - it demonstrates his great taste and generosity as an artist if nothing else.
The entire album is incredible, but 'The Chill Air' is literally breathtaking- it stops me dead in my tracks every time I hear it.

If contemplation had a melody, the music contained in this album would be part of it. Harold Budd has been writing and performing exquisite music over many, many years –you must listen to "Pavilion of Dreams" or "The Pearl," his collaborations with Brian Eno in the 70's, if you need proof– and although not incredibly prolific, each time what he has released has been worth the wait. "La Bella Vista" ranks among her most accomplished in recent years, which might sound strange given the spontaneous circumstances of its recording at Daniel Lanois eponymous house in the Mojave desert –the story goes that he did not even know he was been taped during the first piece– yet it is. The music here is meditative, spacious and beautifully ... Read More:

this is pretty much what you would expect from two masters of the ambient and ethereal. Budd's distinctive and minimalist melodic piano resonates through layers of synths and treated guitars. It's very well executed and sounds better with each listening. Hard to fault really.
Release Date October 20, 2008
i think this is a slow burner, i`s almost like no piano from Harold, a lot of treatments et al , but i am definitely warming to this album.

On looking to expand my Harold Budd collection I noticed with some amazement that this beautiful album had no rating or review.Amazed because i have owned it many years now and am still deeply moved by its spectral beauty..there is,through all the tracks a continuity in the sound but the emotions behind them vary..from uplifting to haunting melancholy.I have several of Harold Budds albums..this one always returns to me though on a regular basis.
The feel of the album to me has an oceanic quality..the openess of the sky and sea whilst sailing through these everchanging musical atmospheres.Dont get me wrong there are no background nature sounds etc..its just the feeling it gives to me.
The balance between electronics and instruments ... Read More:

Well, I think the Cocteau Twins were a great band and as for Harold Budd, I could listen to his lullaby piano for the rest of my life. However, I've never really thought of this, a one-off collaboration from 1986, as a successful meeting of minds. The problem is that what you have here, effectively, are two separate mini-albums spliced together. Half the tracks sound like pretty much everything else the Cocteau Twins were doing in the mid-eighties, except that if you listen carefully you can just about hear a piano desperately trying to make itself heard above the noise; and the other half of the album sounds, basically, like Harold Budd's solo work from the same period.
For me, the album works best on the tracks where the instrumentation is stripped ... Read More:

I own most of Harold Budd's released material and to me this is his finest piece which always seems to be the favoured one that ends up on the CD player. Predominately a piano based work, there are also lush atmospheric overtones that create a pleasing to the ear sense of relaxation as you listen. There are shades of some of Eno's late 70's recordings such as 'Music for Airports' and it is obvious to see from 'The Room' why these 2 composers produced some great work in collaboration with each other over the years. A piece of advice to any potential new listener who is interested in hearing Budd's work - this is the first recording I would go for. You won't be disappointed.
Release Date June 23, 1997
If you never listen to anything else by Harold Budd, listen to this. It takes me to places I've only rarely visited in my life. I truly cannot describe how wonderful this album is! I don't care if no one ever rates this review, I only know what I hear every time I listen to this heavenly sound.
