I'm giving this CD 5 stars as it is an excellent time capsule, apart from Will You there probably isn't another song in here that would be a hit today but is an excellent example of poppy punk/new wave music from 1980. I remember seeing the film in the mid 80's and buying the album the very next day, loved it and still do today. For 3 pounds you can't go wrong (the sax solo on Will You is worth that on its own)

It's a shame that there is no current DVD of the film as it creates a good feel for the environment in which this album was written. There is an angst in the more punky songs like Big Brother and Blackman which for me make these stand out tracks and the change of tempo in Who Needs It still excites me 20 years on as the ... A Singular Collection: the Best of Hazel O'Connor

I just aquired this album from a 'very special' source. And I am bowled over. Here, I must confess I was never into punk music, I'm really an old rocker at heart. But the songs on this album are amazing. I hear shades of Marianne Faithfull, I hear sounds remeniscent of Joan Armatrading. But most of all I hear that delightful voice and the very catchy tunes of Miss Hazel O'Connor. You must listen to this. Ten out of ten!
And thank you, Hazel.

Hazels fourth album and debut on RCA here on CD at last - featurinbg the full 2 tracks she perfomed on C4 Prospects as well. Standout tracks are TELL ME A STORY, her take on MAN I LOVE, and CUTS TOO DEEP. It may sound rather dated but thank you Hazel for letting us hear this great album once more.

The music style has matured. Hazel has a much smoother voice these days, but though a little of the bite has gone from the original it's developed into a more Celtic lilting style of singing, but none the less enjoyable for that.
Does "Will You" work without the solo sax? Not for me, that was one of the all time great sax solo's, and the song is lacking without it.

if you have music from hazel already then you will love this. the early years, some say the best, although her style has changed. this was one of first albums I had and I played it to death. will get it on CD one day. have 3 copies on vinyl - two worn out.

If you want the single version of D Days go for the singular collection, the version here is the album origional and not the Tony Visconti rerecording that was a hit in 1981. Highly recommended LP

I ve got all of Hazels early eighties stuff, then I came accross this cd and wow! its really good, a completely different style of singing from Hazel, its soulful and bluesy a completely slowed down Hazel,compared to her punky style of the 80s.I would recommend it to all the people who like her early stuff and to anyone whos not heard of her, to add this to their cd collections , its warming cracking stuff.10 out of 10.
