. The Best of Herbie Mannby: Herbie Mann Release Date July 01, 1993 I bought this music for one track, on 12" vinyl, hundreds of years ago. I recently bought the cd for my god-daughter who firmly believes she was put on the planet to play the flute and is going about proving it. Her dad is a jazz/fusion flautist and I have high hopes that one day we will have a lot of fun all hammering away at "Memphis Underground". This track is a real chugger - wonderful chopping rhythm guitar and a bass line that sounds like it's moseying down the street in cool duds, swinging its shoulders like a real dude, unstoppable. The band really cooks. Herbie supplies the tune. As with the other tracks, he demonstrates why the flute has never cut it as a front line jazz voice. It is better suited to the sweet ... Read More: |
