In the beginning I'm into something good was a U S top 40 hit covered by the part time singer wife of deejay Kennie Everett-who showed it to Mickie Most who was opportunist enough as to get his new clients to cover it as their first single!
By the time of the American release the Earl Jean original had run it course so they had the field to themselves.
Goffin & King were no doubt very pleased and submitted the follow up Show me girl -before any other U S act got it!.
As the next year went by Hermans Hermits began to record the songs of Kenny Young who was another of the Brill Building writers and later masterminded the career of Clodagh Rodgers before founding Fox

This combo, seemingly on Top of the Pops every week in the 60s, were the epitome of meaningless, relentlessly cheery, pop. The Tremeloes, a group with the same MO who announced their intention to go "heavy" around 1969, promptly alienated their core audience; one couldn't imagine Peter "Herman" Noone even attempting such a volte-face with that

Bach: Violin Concertos, BWV1041-1043 & 1060

Arthur Grumiaux plays Violin Concertos No.1, BWV 1041 and No. 2, BWV 1042 most beautifully. He has an immaculate style and musicality. In the Concerto for Two Violins BWV 1043, he is joined by Herman Krebbers, another excellent violinist and the then concertmaster of the great Concertgebouw Orchestra Amsterdam.

The orchestral support from Les Solistes Romands under the baton of Arpad Gerecz is very good but rather discreet.

In Concerto for Oboe and Violin BWV 1060, Grumiaux is joined by Heinz Holliger. This is another superlative performance, making this CD one of the best among Bach's concerto recordings.

The quality of recording is excellent, although in violin concertos the instruments are placed rather too forward.

Giant

I absolutely love this album, if you just let it play it's nice and relaxing listen but the lyrics have a lovely black humour to them. I find it hard to listen to this album without smiling, can be embarassing if you walk down the street with an mp3 player though, I'm sure some people must think I'm a care in the community case now. If you like quirky intelligent song writing such as Belle & Sebastian (more their early stuff though) you'll like this.

Most albums seem to be produced to play loud at the expense of sound quality but this is one of the most well produced albums I've heard from the last few years and it shows off the quality of the musicianship beautifully.

this is the 1966 original broadway cast of Jerry Hermans' lovely musical'Mame' about the life of an eccentric lady who becomes the guradian to herorphaned nephew. Angela Lansbury is outstanding in the title role andalong with a decent cast belts out some great showstopping songs such as'Mame', 'We need a little christmas' and 'open a new window'. This showwas originally recorded in 1966 and remastered and re-released in 1999with bonus tracks featuring the composer Jerry Herman singing some demosongs back in 1966. this will be a nice addtion to any collection.

Leontyne Price - The Ultimate Collection

This is a great collection of songs and arias that made the fabulous Leontyne Price the legend that she is.
Her voice is amazing she really can sing!!! These arias are sung in a way that no other diva can perform them she really gets into the roles of each aria and you can feel her passion. I do really recommend this CD it is one of the best CD's I have brought in a long time.
