My knowledge of classical music is not so advanced, but it is a breed of music you must learn to appreciate if you get what I mean. I am to keen to expand my knowledge of classical music, so buying this album is a great starting point. Classical music is a breed of music which existed long time ago and is really old fashioned, but a real pleasure to listen to. It is very much instrumental orientated. You can hear the piano, violin or the flute with their distinctive sounds in the background.
The Most Relaxing Classical Music in the World is an excellent album featuring and honouring the talents of all the major acts to embrace their names in classical music combined in four CDs. Remember The Four Seasons, Fantasia, Concerto For ... Read More:

I have never been into classical music, however the TV programs Maestro and Last Choir standing (I know trash TV... sorry) made me realise I did like some classical music. So time to test that theory, and of course this CD fitted the bill perfectly, a bit of everything and 99% you will probably know. Good album, maybe I may have discovered culture :-)

As other reviewers have noted, Howard Shore shows once again with this CD his great talent for film soundtrack-writing. Each theme is tailored superbly to the character or place it represents, and the orchestration is superb, allowing a great spectrum of emotional colour to shine through.
If I have a criticism it probably concerns what another reviewer referred to with his comparison of the music on one hand alongside the film, and on the other as music in its own right. The editing of the CD is such that you get a lot of themes, or passing references to them, constantly bobbing up in the mix like ingredients in a casserole. So the music, whilst undeniably beautifully written and expertly orchestrated, sometimes feels as though it is never ... Read More:
If the original 2CD `The Only Classical Album You'll Ever Need' was true to its claim, then surely there'd be no need for this volume 2 would there? Never mind, all good things deserve a sequel I guess.
This follow up 2CD release matches the original in that the budget price doesn't reflect the quality, for the soloists, orchestras, conductors and the recordings themselves ensure it is a good quality selection of mostly familiar music from the classical music repertoire.
The choices this time offer a slightly more varied repertoire than the opera-biased original, for example there are film soundtracks such as `The Mission' (Ennio Morricone), `Lord of the Rings (Howard Shore), `The Deerhunter' (Stanley Myers) and `2001 : A Space ... Read More:

I can't believe that they didn't release this originally: this is perfect. I was disappointed on purchasing the original FOTR soundtrack not to hear the original score, such as the prologue overture, listed on this disk as 'One Ring to Rule Them All'. This recording evokes all the excitement of the film. As a fan you will be able to trace the narrative of the epic and lose yourself in fantasy in a way which wasn't achievable with the previous CD releases.

I recently listened to the music on the box set being played by the London Royal philharmonic orchestra at the Royal Albert Hall in London and immediately loved the music and bought the c.d box set. All the themes from the films are played brilliantly with a real joyous sound to them. The themes that I had seen the films to I think I enjoyed the most as I already new them yet hearing them being played by such a good orchestra really makes the c.d worth listening to. There is not a single bad track on the c.d and one of my particular favourites was 'the great escape' which really made me smile. This album is a must buy for anyone who enjoys film theme tunes or anyone who likes listening to an orchestra as talented as this. 5 stars!

Throughout the album Shore brings us his haunting feel, through the Asylum and Clarice, which all the way through has the classic Silence of the Lambs stamp of approval. Compared with Zimmer's sound score there is no comparison, Zimmer's is very good and beautiful to hear but Shore's is far more haunting and chilling and in my opinion more enjoyable to listen to. This maybe because Hannibal is set in the Summer and The Silence of the Lambs is based in the winter, Shore's score has also got a very cold and wintery feel about it. But this is one of the things which makes Hannibal and The Silence of the Lambs so different, they are two totally different films, no way in the same leagues and the same goes for the music. The soundtrack doesn't recieve my fifth star because ... Read More:
