Ian Brown is in my opinion the best songwriter in the World. His wordsworth way with lyrics, his ability to incorporate different subjects into his writing I find wonderful. Ian Brown is also responsible for F.E.A.R. which is quite possibly the most intelligent piece of song writing ever composed. This album provides a batch of fantastic Ian Brown records such as Golden Gaze, Whispers, Longsight M13 and When Dolphins Were Monkeys. Ian Brown will probably never get the recognition he truly deserves which I find frustrating. He has not appeared to have forgotten where he comes from and the fact that he remains true to himself is a testament to the man. His ability is in my opinion undeniable. AFTER YEARS OF FOLLOWING THE 'ROSES AND IAN BROWN SOLO, I THINK HE HAS GOT BETTER EVERY ALBUM. BUT.... AFTER HEARING THE PROMO WITH SINNAED O'CONNOR & PRE-ORDERING THROUGH AMAZON FOR THIS NEW CD I THOUGHT WHY NOT GET THE COLLECTORS DOUBLE VERSION. I WAITED IN AWE FOR SOMETHING OF WHICH I THOUGHT WOULD BE THE BEST YET. AFTER SEVERAL LISTENS I STILL CANT GET INTO IT. ITS "NOT" IAN BROWN RUFFNECK INDIE FUNK WITH A FEW TWISTS! INSTEAD ITS LIKE SOMEONE GOT ONE OF HIS ALBUMS & RUINED IT FROM START TO FINNISH. TOO MANY ORCHESTRAL BACKGROUND STUFF & TOO POLISHED......
GET BACK TO ROOTS IAN & GIVE US WHAT WE LIKED IN THE 1ST!!!!!

To set the music straight i loved and love the Stone Roses but for the sake of this review and the your taste in music - lets move on shall we ? If you came home from a night out with people that annoyed you and you wanted to escape to somewhere raw and real then put FEAR on and get real again - to the root. Ian Brown doesnt have the best singing voice - revelation !!! But what do you want to listen to ? Some manafactured mind numbing -soul breaking tune that leaves you empty - or some track that fills every gap in your head - this albumn does it - its honest and it should be viewed in a different genre to the 'Roses - its full of feeling and thats lacking in most music today - buy this albumn and listen to FEAR or Forever and a Day and listen ... Unfinished Monkey Business

The man, the legend - I'm 35 and lets be honest 'The Stone Roses' IS the greatest album ever recorded. I remember this album when I bought it and I remember saying to my mates 'Corpses In Their Mouths' its just like the roses! I recently bought the rest of Ian Brown's albums. Quality - this man is the real front man! the absolute legend - Ian Brown is class and in years to come his albums will gain more recognition, makes you realise who the creative one was in the Roses - pure genius!

Golden Greats

I cannot put into words the love I have for this album. It is just so perfectly produced. The lyrical content is relatively simple, but well thought out, The music is enduring and so beautifully layered. I can listen to it over and over again and it never grows tiresome. Ian never follows the crowd - he sets his own agenda and does what he wants and this makes for some truly astonishing pop music. If only one british band/group/solo artist brought out an album that was as good as this every year I would be happy, but unfortunatly we have to put up with the endless stream of drivel that passes for 'classic' British albums.

Nearly all other British artists are lazy and boring apart from Ian Brown and Thom Yorke.

There's the rest of my music, then Ian Brown, simple as.

This is the last album I had left to buy...n yeah it is on it high points better then every other band / artist I know, he does not disapoint I was smilling with in seconds of putting the CD on. I LOVE Keep What you got, had it repeat now for ages. Other people don't make songs that good, if they do I haven't found them.

I love the way the music is always so simple but so good. And the Lyrics
simpe n true , he can get away with saying simple stuff other people can't. I think Golden Gaze is a bit more polished end to end. This & The world is yours loose it in places. u can't measure him next to other bands tho so is still 5*

I decided to buy this compilation by Ian Brown as he's one of my fave muscians and I love his work with the Stone Roses and his solo stuff to date. If people are expecting this compilation to just feature rock musicans then think again cos Ian Brown has a wide range of musical influences which are evident in his solo stuff. I would say this CD is a tale of two halfs. The first 9 tunes feature Hip-Hop with the opener from GZA, Rock with The Clash and reggae with Buju Banton and Junior Byles and others. The next 7 tunes are a mix of 60's Nothern Soul, Gospel and Soul. I really enjoyed listening to this CD as it gave me an insight into what influenced Ian Brown with my fave tunes coming from the first 9 tunes of the album the opener by GZA is great, 'Fade Away' and 'Compliment' are ...
