I read about this CD in Mojo magazine where it was awarded Blues Album Of THe Month for December 08 . Must admit i was a bit wary because i love all types of American music from blues to country throught to soul etc but i never feel that anyone can do it as well as the Americans . I took a chance on this anyway and....it's good . Very , very good in fact it's bloody magnificent and i can't stop playing it all the time !
Superb acoustic stuff all the way with top-notch musicianship , great songs (covers and brilliant originals) and some of the best , passionate vocals you'll hear in long time . I've been converted , this guy's as good as any American out there and , Ian , this is a damn masterpiece my man . More please......

A Bigger Plate of Meat and Potatoes: +DVD

I bought this cd/dvd combo despite already owning the cd, now the property of a friend, as it was the quickest way to see Ian Siegal in action.

The cd is reviewed elsewhere (seriously good!)& the dvd in this package contains not only good live footage from the North Sea Jazz Festival but also an interview with the man himself.

I gave it 4 stars as the production is pretty basic but, then again, that is also part of its charm. It captures the essence of a tight blues band playing live & clearly enjoying it.

There can't be a better offer out there so get while you can!

Swagger

I am something of a lapsed bues fan & was more than pleasantly surprised with the quality of Ian Siegal's offering.
The cd doesn't get 5 stars as there is some way to go to achieve full marks but this is probably as good a UK blues cd as you'll listen to this year.
Ian's voice is certainly a stand out feature but the musicianship on the cd overall is satisfyingly high.

I'm pleased I took the time to check it out.

Meat and Potatoes

I purchased this cd on the back of "Swagger" which is a later offering & was absoluitely astounded by the quality & integrity of Ian Siegal's playing. Meat & Potatoes is absolutely immense however & is by far the best blues cd I've listened to in ages.

His vocals sound like Howlin Wolf at his meanest & his phrasing is right out of the gospel according to Paul Rodgers.

The whole band bristles with the kind of understated blues playing that is all too rare these days. I won't go through a track by track synopsis but would recommend this to anyone even remotely interested in the blues. The man is seriously talented!
