Release Date July 02, 2007
An absolute undiscovered AOR/Metal classic. This CD has everything. If you like your rock hard, but with plenty of melody and catchy hooky choruses, then this is the CD for you. This band should have been HUGE with a capital H. Buy it or regret it forever. Long live ICON!! PS. Don't buy the live CD if advertised. It is a cheap live recording with very poor sound quality, and does not warrant the expense.

I still play my old LP version of this, and trust me when I say that it still holds its own. Easily knocks on its backside anything that the best and the brightest of todays punk bands have to offer. Classic.

I was introduced to Icon by a friend who had been raving about this new band from Portugal. Despite my initial scepticism, I found myself liking nearly every track on this album. The production values are excellent, while the lyrics are clearly heartfelt and have an added poignancy. The quality of the lead singer's vocal is deeply evocative. Meanwhile, it's great that the band have not been hidebound by the clichés of the genre - there's even a Kate Bush cover in there!
Although there have been a lot of comparisons with HIM, I think the lead vocals are much stronger, and the song lyrics more personal (this is not a critique of HIM, by the way, I just want to emphasise that Icon & the Black Roses are even better).

High caliber electro.. Not really industrial..(not heavy or dark enough for that). Rather this is heavy-beat electro infused by techno-pop sensibilty. Emminently dancable, frequently thought-provoking lyrics, and always enjoyable. Excellent studio production, helping to shape IOC's identity...and check out what I can only describe as techno-dub on that last track. My first IOC purchase.. but surely not my last

I bought this CD without ever hearing Icons Of Filth, many of my friends were big fans, and one of my friends even tried to Resuscitate Stig at thier final show. Under pressure from my peers I bought this album. I listened to it all the way through twice as soon as I got it, and I think it is one of the most consistent punk rock albums I own. When I got the CD I was not very interested in animal rights, or anarcho beliefs, however, I do now life a vegetarian lifestyle and feel the lyrics are more relevent to me now, but dont let that stop you hearing this, as I dont think this made me make the change. R.I.P Stig.
