Make Another World

by: Idlewild

Release Date February 26, 2008
I must agree with another reviewer on this album, it is Idlewild's best since 100 Broken Windows. At first I didn't think so, I wasn't particularly impressed, but after 2 or 3 listens all the way through, my mind changed completely.

Opener "In Competition For The Worst Time" is probably not the best song on the album to open with, it promises much but doesn't really deliver.

"Everything As It Moves" is a brilliant anthem that really kicks the album off, great lyrics and quite a bouncy chorus.

"No Emotion", the first single has a sort of disco beat to it (the band have said so themselves) with a great lead riff that makes it one of the best songs on the album.

"Make Another World" is another ... Read More:

The Remote Part

by: Idlewild

Release Date July 15, 2002
Some six years on from the Remote Part, we can now reflect on how it sits in Idlewild's catalogue of work. It was a successful albums which habours some excellent singles. But as much as I'm a fan, it remains to me their most frustrating work. It has the sound of a band torn between the raucous angst and reverberation of Broken windows and the label driven desire to be a successful commercially sensible pop-rock band. It doesnt work. Whilst the title track and all the singles from it, including YHTWIYA, and American English are some of the band's finest work, a number of other songs simply don't hit the mark and there is a feeling of hapless filler on an album which is only actually 38 minutes long! I am What I Am Not, Out of Routine, Stay the ... Read More:

100 Broken Windows

by: Idlewild

Release Date April 10, 2000
Very rarely in life will you hear an album with no filler 'tracks'. There are none on this album. It changes moods at will, from aggressive, to epic, to subtle, to progressive. It really is one of the best albums i have heard in a long time.

Highlights include tracks

1. Little Discourage - This track starts off with a very indie sounding verse. It then kicks in with a fast paced, distorted chorus, to chants of 'All I need is a little discourage' A classic line to a classic track. - 9/10

4. Roseability - For me Idlewilds best track on this album. Featuring yet more inspired lyrics and some stunning guitar work. Its an angry, bitter track, with barks abound and all the better for it. - 10/10

5. Idea ... Read More:

Scottish Fiction: Best of 1997 - 2007

by: Idlewild

Release Date October 01, 2007
I have just bought this album despite owning the full Idlewild back catalogue, such is my loyalty to this legendary band.

Agree with the previous reviewer, shows Idlewild right through the last decade perfectly on 1 album, from 'Roseability' right through to the hugely successful 'American Engliah' (still 1 of my favourite songs of all time).

If you don't own any Idelwild albums, why not? Here's the perfect place to start...

Warnings/Promises

by: Idlewild

Release Date March 07, 2005
I have never said this about an album before, but it is sheer perfection. Every Idlewild album is diferent, that's what makes them so amazing. It has been 10 years since Captain, so they, as well as their music, have grown up. They have made a brilliant album.

Captain

by: Idlewild

Release Date March 02, 1998
Having bought all five Idlewild albums in reverse order, I can say that Captain was wirth the wait.

Self-Healer is the best track I've ever heard, an intense masterpiece that says it all in under two minutes. The lyrics are in Idlewild's trademark contradictory style, with such gems as 'A song is a beautiful lie'.

Annihilate Now follows, and is less frenzied and a bit repetitive, but nonetheless a very good song.

Captain isn't great but Last Night... is another adrenalin-booster, and the start of Satan Polaroid is sublime, as is the rest of the track.

The final track starts promisingly but fades away rather disappointingly. Six minutes is too long for an Idlewild song.

However, overall this is a great album, and well worth ... Read More:

Hope Is Important

by: Idlewild

Release Date October 26, 1998
Since buying this albumn idlewild have become one of my favourite bands. There may be a few weaker tracks on the albumn but the rest is raw, really energetic, great music. Not quite as polished as the fantastic 100 broken windows but when u hear tracks such as "paint nothing" and "when i argue i see shapes" you'll rock out. Fantastic.

Scottish Fiction: Best of 1997 - 2007 (Special Edition)

by: Idlewild

Release Date October 01, 2007
Im not gonna write a long review as other users have done the band justice with recommending this best of.
Im not gonna critique the band.
Just going to say if you like rock music in any shape or form Idlewild are one of the best groups to come out of Scotland alongside Biffy Clyro.
When listening to the music you can almost *feel* a rooting that can only come from growing up in Scotland. Listen to "Scottish Fiction".
My favourite track by Idlewild is the sweet longing track "El Capitain", a song i couldn't live without.....
The price for this album is a steal, don't download it. Support the band, read the liner notes while your listening and place yourself in Idlewild's world.
!!!HIGHLY RECOMMENDED!!!

Roseability [CD 1]

by: Idlewild

Release Date October 16, 2000
When I first of all heard of Idlewild I was listining to Lamacq Live and I heard the brilliant Little discourage. I thought that was great but as more of their songs came out they got better so I thought I had to get their new album, 100 broken windows and I thought there hasn't been a good punk rock band for years. I ecspecially thought that when I heard Roesabillity it's great it's got everything on it guitars bass drums and a great punk style voice on it. Brilliant it deserves better.
