Written and recorded with friend David Bowie, Iggy Pop's debut solo album is a brilliant, but gloomy affair that differs markedly from his last (official) release - 1973's Raw Power. The crash, bang and wallop which characterised The Stooges exhilarating hard rock is displaced by a variety of effects and textures that include industrial noise (`Mass Production'), electronica (`Sister Midnight' and `Nightclubbing') and saxophone-driven, jazzy atmospherics (`Tiny Girls'). Also, Pop's brooding, nuanced vocal performances on the likes of `Baby' and `China Girl' owe as much to Frank Sinatra's sublime singing on In The Wee Small Hours and Only The Lonely as they do to his rock roots.
Apparently, Siouxsie Sioux once remarked of The Idiot that it ... Read More:

Having taken over the mantle of composing the James Bond movie soundtracks for the 90s (and very good they are too), David Arnold revisits Bond theme songs in this project, working with a wide range of artists to produce a set of really interesting covers. And the whole CD is worth buying just for the astounding first track - David McAlmont is Miss Shirley Bassey as his falsetto vamps up 'Diamonds are Forever' in homage to the queen of Bond theme songs and gay icon. After that you feel rather let down by Aimee Mann's understated 'Nobody does it better' - although listened to separately, this track will grow on you. Chrissie Hynde rocks out in 'Live and let die', and the Propellerheads do their drum'n'bass thing brilliantly with 'On her Majesty's secret service'. ... Read More:

Five stars for the first CD, which has some of the best and most influential music ever made on it, not no stars for the second CD, which documents the sad collapse of Iggy's career after the 70's. A duet with Debbie Harry defines the words 'rock bottom'. Buy for CD 1, use CD 2 for you coffee cup.

Originally released in 1977, as I first assumed it was Iggy's first solo effort. Turns out to be a collaboration between Iggy and former Stooges guitarist James Williamson. Tracks here I personally thought made the grade were the wailing title cut "Kill City", "I Got Nothin' ", the classic "Johanna", "Consolation Prizes" and "Lucky Monkeys". Took me awhile to finally land down a copy of this proto-punk gem but it was WORTH the wait. Personnel: Iggy-vocals, James Williamson-guitar, Scott Thurston-bass, keyboards & harmonica and Brian Glascock (Motels)-drums. A definite should-have.

Arguably not one of the best Bowie/Pop collaborations but a not bad album from two of most flamboyant characters in the music industry. Hidden gems are the early collaborations between Pop and Steve Jones of the Sex Pistols fame, who played lead guitar on "Cry For Love". However this album is worth buying for just one song in my view..."Shades"! A beautiful love song which really shows off Pop's sometimes underrated vocal talents! That's not to say the rest of the album is bad because it's not, it's just this one song lifts it from average to worth a buy, for any Iggy Pop fans who might be considering buying this album.

i have nothing to say really, after all this years, it remains iggy's most memorable album. it marks an opening of his new era, it showed hope and health in a natrual way. unlike instinct and blah, they are also healthy ones, but they are sythesised. this one contains a diversity of songs, fantastic performance. if you are lucky to see the show for this album, kiss my blood, it's more trhan great. he then changed his appearance, longer hairs. two best iggy;s own albums, brick and caeser.
