and that is how it should be. For me the killer cut is "A matter of fact" which goes ever so well alongside Massive Attack's Unfinished Sympathey and Shara Nelson's Down that Road.

It amazes me that quality like Innocence should be forgotten by all but a few. Spend a fiver and join this select few!

Glow

How are The Innocence Mission not more widely recognised?!

The breathtaking simplicity of every song astounds me - one who usually asks for a huge amount of depth in the music I listen to - so that all my preconceptions of simplicity are smashed away by Karen Peris' (yes that's PeRis with an 'R') child-like lilting through the songs.

I can't fault this album. Simple as that.

We Walked in Song

The Innocence Mission are very aptly named. There's a childlike purity to their music that makes it stand out, unperturbed by the rest of today's musical landscape.

Initially I was not as keen on 'We walked...' as I was on their near perfect 'Befriended' album, but their latest offering has slowly won me over. The IM style is other-worldly bossa-nova fused folk music so pure and plaintive it's sometimes painful to listen, like you're unworthy or something to that effect. Although this album is not as diverse musically as the aforementioned 'Befriended' it has a charm all of its own. Birds of My Neighborhood

The CD is well worth having for Lakes of Canada alone. Many other moving tracks. If you don't like the etherial guitar / piano / female vocalists genre, like previous reviewer, then you won't like this. The only weakness on the album is letting Don Peris have a couple of tracks at the end. Karen's voice is the star here.

I was introduced to this in 1998 and it has become almost a cult CD. Everyone who hears it wants to buy it, and usually does. It is the best chillout music - a sultry beat underlies all the tunes which you will find yourself humming gently to yourself for days after listening!

Just so good. You should buy this!

Befriended

I found this album purely by chance, but fate must have smiled on me that day. It's a star from beginning to end, packed with swooning, fabulous songs which make you hit the repeat button - repeatedly! Karen Peris's voice is childlike and pure as a bell. Not the irritating vapid squeak found on various other albums featuring female vocalists, but evocative and sometimes almost eerie. I bought their back catalogue on the strength of this CD and I wasn't disappointed in any of their previous work either. Go on, put 'Befriended' in your shopping cart while you can. You won't regret it.

Small Planes

This is the second CD by the Innocence Mission that I have purchased, the first being Birds of my Neighbourhood.Whilst I felt Birds of my Neighbourhood was an excellent piece of music, Small Planes definately has the edge.
This is a mix of slow dreamy melodies such as Migration & I have loved you through to the more up tempo catchy tunes of Today & Too Early to Say. The magical voice of Karen Peris shines in every song. This blends fantastically with the relaxing backing music in typical Innocence Mission fashion. I you've had a stressfull day, then lying down with your eyes closed and listening to Small Planes and Karens voice is the perfect remedy.
