I was hoping JMJ would start re-releasing his earlier work in 5.1 surround and my prayers have been answered. I've fallen in love with the album again. Let's hope he does the same thing with Equinox, Rendez Vous etc......

I was 15 years old, utterly bored with pop music and disenchanted with the Stock, Aitken and Waterman 80's takeover. One day, I was at a friend's house and just happened to pass by his big brother's room. The door was ajar. Inside was dark. 'Sweet-smelling' smoke gently issued forth. And there was this sound, this wash of music. I had not heard anything like it before. I was immediately mesmerised, entranced, seduced, taken somewhere else by those incredible soundscapes (or was it the sweet-smelling smoke???)
This is a work of art. For my money, I reckon in a few decades or so it will be regarded as a classic, electronic symphonic work.
I saw him live in Glasgow and it was then I realised this music was as close to classical ... Read More:

Jean Michel Jarre( Or Jean -Michel Jarre as he used to be known .He dropped the hyphen in 1991) released his first album "Oxygene" in 1977( It had been released in his native France a year earlier) at the height of the punk phenomenon. Even though i was a massive punk fan i had a closet fascination with various artists considered criminally un-cool. Pink Floyd, The Moody Blues, Neil Diamond and most pertinently the ambient "EG" works of Brian Eno and by proxy it,s various off-shoots.Through this my voracious musical antenna picked up on groups like Kraftwerk and then Jean Michel Jarre.
"Oxygene" is considered by many to be the most important and influential electronic album ever released. It,s lush glistening surfaces glided over the sumptuous melodious ... Read More:

Jean Michel Jarre is like Tangerine Dream on speed and a lot more bloody tuneful. I just wish he showed a bit more of an imagination in naming his songs. It is a bit of a bugger when you are singing his virtues in a bar somewhere and you think you are discussing Third Rendez-vous and really you are discussing Fourth Rendez-vous. Talk about embarrassment, I hate it when that happens don't you? You wake from your drunken slumbers next day and it slowly comes back to you in flashbacks that? All you said was rubbish because you were one digit out. If this happens I always try and find that person and explain my mistake.NOT!
This is a very good CD verging on greatness. It is an album that you really need to play all of it in one go, hence the Tangerine Dream reference, ... Read More:

I love this album, having bought the original in 1985, I still play this loud and proud.
I love Ethinicolor, its full version is a truly overlooked track, as it was shortened on subsequent albums.
As for the others, they are great too!

'Images' is a pretty good place to go if you want your first hit of Jean Michel Jarres studio work. It's not necessarily the best place to go for your first taste of his music though. I tend to feel he is best heard on a live album first and 'Destination Docklands' is my personal favourite and recommendation. Never the less you get a good taste of Jarre from this CD. You get all his best known hits and you'll be surprised just how many you know. Of course 'Oxygene', 'Fourth Rendez Vous' and the excellent 'London Kid' are here, but you get a good selection of his other output as well. I guess it's worth noting here that Jarres music is very much electro pop and may be an acquired taste, but his music can be extremely powerful and stirring. The songs often build up as they progress and finish with an ... Read More:

Before we get started, I am an avid JmJ Purist, I have all his albums and have been a fan of his for years, and This Album `Revolutions' is my favourite of his albums.
Having read most of the criticisms of the reviewers I have come to my own conclusion about this album. The bulk of people who complained about the album are people who say its too much too different from jmj. But when you study the ideology behind the album you can really appreciate it...
One of the definitions of the word "Revolutions" is that it is a change of ideals and practices, this should always be in the forefront of your mind when listening to the album because it not only describes the albums musical story, it describes the story of the musical change made by jmj from light hits such as oxygene/equinox to revolutions. ... I agree with the previous reviews, in that the visual aspect is dull. However the musical reworkings are excellent, and add a new slant to well known compositions.
