If you're like me and have never paid any interest to KD Lang before now and have not heard any of her stuff except 'Constant Craving', then read on. I stumbled upon this album a couple of months after it had been released. As usual, I searched YouTube for any tracks on there to get a first impression and to see if I wanted to investigate further. I also watched a recent interview with KD, interspersed with tracks from Watershed. I heard 'I Dream Of Spring' and really liked it. I thought I'd download the full album and give it a listen.

Ingenue

This album is so very important for me personally but also for k.d lang.

It is where she left her C&W roots behind and branched out. Now, I loved her earlier stuff but here her amazing voice is showcased and k.d gets the chance to really fly.

This is one of the great torch song albums, a gem and an intimate insight into how she was feeling at the time of writing and recording. It is an album about love, tenderness, pain, solitude, sadness and joy.

Apparently she was suffering from an unrequieted passion while she was writing many of the songs. I think we have all been there, regardless of our sexuality and who could fail to be touched?

I've be a fan of k.d's for many years, but I'd forgotten how good and how fun her early work was. I had also forgotten how strong k.d's voice was even in the really wacky songs. This is a CD of 20 really enjoyable songs, bright and lively and will lighten up even the most boring of days!

There is a mixture of songs from her early albums, that have been tweaked a little here and there but are basically in their original form, plus a couple of real gems that were never on previous albums. "Friday Dance Promenade" and the specially recorded "Changed My Mind".
The CD is a wonderful compilation and has moved me to start playing all k.d's earlier albums again.
