. Sea Sawby: Lisa Hannigan Release Date January 20, 2009 This album was such a find. By the second play I was addicted; it is now an essential on my daily ipod. Lisa's beautiful voice is powerful yet never overplayed. The songs are magical, understated with imaginative arrangements and clever lyrics, gorgeous melodies with great hooks. There are no weak songs on this album- every song is simple lovely. I do think putting this album down as folk limits it's audience- it reminds me more of the better American college indie. Shame the album artwork isn't shown- even that is good. Discover and enjoy! |

I knew nothing about the problems in Burma until I bought this single and since then I have joined in the campaign and e-mailed the various people instructed to by the various organisiations on freeburma.org Well done to Damien & Lisa for raising awareness. With regard to the song, I have been a fan of 'O' since it was released and have been really impressed (and a little smug probably) with it's long-term success. People still seem to be discovering that record as though it is new. It is a proper classic but the follow up is long overdue now. The Blower's Daughterby: Damien Rice, Lisa Hannigan Release Date December 13, 2004 The Main Feature: Damien Rice's absorbing brand of stylishly un-styled dirty folk music is well known - and is no better flaunted than in 'The Blower's Daughter'. Appropriately, the song is folded into the opening credits of the film 'Closer'. The two share much: a sense of chaste beauty and of withdrawn sorrow, a sense of hope and of despair, a sense of intimacy and of betryal. Rice's haunting vocal, embroidered by the sombre solo cello of Vyvienne Long, melts into bright instrumentals and Lisa Hannigan's vocals - before just as quickly soaring away on the breeze. Verdict: Adventurous and grounded in emotional intimacy. A song that will get under your skin if you let it - and I urge you to. |
