Loreena McKennit is a very skilful musician and she combines simple themes with complex arragements. The music is traditional-celtic-folk style with a new-age twist. The musicians who perform on this CD are to a very high standard and the mixing is done well so that all instruments can be heard properly. A great deal of work has gone into producing this album, as has been done with Loreena's later work. The pieces are all very different, though "Bonny Swans" does get rather tedious and there's a tendency to fast-forward to the next track after one minute of it. However, if you like traditional celtic folk music, you're sure to enjoy this one.

In the 90s the name Loreena McKennit was synonymous with the new folk music which had gone back to the roots-music which can be compared with Clannad,Caroline Lavelle (who has input on some of the songs),Claire Hamill and Enya.
Like Judy Collins before her she uses folk songs and is also a writer who had travelled the World.
As the only artist on the Quinlan Road label Loreena McKennit has become something of an industry where everything is always available and now takes in DVDs and a huge website.
Though she's selling to her own fanbase rather than the pop charts her music is no doubt collected by those who buy Wyndham Hill product and it stays in its own turf.
In the World of Loreena McKennit there's no excess and no attempts to ... Read More:

Finally -- a Christmas album that doesn't include "Jingle Bells," "Joy to the World" or "Let It Snow." Instead, Loreena McKennitt looks back on an almost-forgotten time when Christmas was a sacred holy day, in the all-too-brief but very lovely EP "A Winter Garden."
It opens with the soothing, lullaby-like "Coventry Carol," before heading to the majestic catchiness of "God Rest Ye Merry Gentlemen" and utterly enchanting "Good King Wenceslas," where a saintly king and his servant travel on foot to bring food and firewood to a poor woodsman's family. It's a beautiful little song, and the sprightly tune makes it even more so.
A smoother, softer tone comes in with "Snow," the musical adaptation of a poem by nineteenth-century ... Read More:

I was in the HMV in Oxford in 1995 looking for some nice CD. And I heard Loreena's Bonny Portmore. Without knowing who she was, I needed to buy the CD.
I regularly listen to her works now ("Elemental", "To Drive the Cold Winter Away", "Parallel Dreams", "The Mask and the Mirror", "The Book of Secret", and "An Ancient Muse"), but "The Visit" is still my favourite CD (individual song-wise, 'Dante's Prayer' kills me every time I listen to it).
As far as I can tell, I think "The Visit" was the turning point to her. From this work, the influence of Middle Eastern music began to be more salient. And Music for her became her never ending journey to find the Celtic root (She quoted "A good traveller has no intent on arriving").
