This edition is a combined version of the Greatest Hits packages that were available a few years back. Divine Madness was originally released almost 15 years ago but a few years ago it was updated with re-mastered sound and two extra tracks, Love Struck and Johnny the Horse from their come-back album in 1999.

A Madness collection really could hardly be any more complete. All the hits are here and sounding remarkably fresh, being more than 20 years old. The sound of the CD is much better than the original version of Divine Madness.

Complete Madness

Complete Madness contains the group's very best songs (Embarrassment, My Girl, It Must Be Love, Baggy Trousers, Grey Day etc) but what pushes it above other compilations (e.g. Divine Madness) is the inclusion of inspired album tracks and rarities such as Bed And Breakfast Man, Take It Or Leave It, Madness and In The City.

This album covers Madness' best work up to and including House Of Fun so there is plenty more to explore but this captures Madness at their creative peak. They were never quite this good again.

Everything about this album is special - the songs, the track sequencing, the packaging.

16 tracks. 47 or so minutes. A lifetime of enjoyment. Every home should have one.

One of the best buys for any music fan any where!
You get a CD of 24 of the best Madness Singles followed by the DVD of every singles promo video from The Prince to Drip Fed Fred.
The DVD includes audio commentry from 3 members of the band and many bits of unseen footage.
The videos are all classics in my eyes as are the songs!
Great value for money too! You won't be disapointed!

I was inspired to buy this after seeing their great performance on Jools Holland's show and i wasn't dissapointed. The title track is a charming slice of retro styled ska-pop opening with a nice little piano hook. The Full Length Version has a long, extended outro. B-side Bittersweet works equally well. The only let down is the Man Like Me remix - it's not a dance version at all but just a weird reworking full of random noises, i wasn't that keen on it.

Special mention must also go to the packaging - i was well surprised when i bought the CD thinking it'd come in just a standard jewel-case but instead it comes in this fake vinyl packaging - it's a cool little touch and i like it!

The Business: the Definitive Singles Collection

Potentially good compilation of singles, B-sides and rarities, except that:
1) Short interviews have been placed between the songs- mildly interesting first time round, but you won't to hear them every time. So you'll want to program them out (and there are a lot of them). Unfortunately....
2) You *can't* do that because they haven't been put on separate tracks, just stuck onto the end of the songs. So you have to manually skip them using the "next track" button. But...
3) The interviews start before the songs have finished, so you get these people talking *over* the fadeout (and in at least one case over the start of the next song). If you ever taped songs off the radio as a kid, you'll be familiar with this, but I bet you never thought you'd get that ... Read More:

I've been a Madness fan since '79, but what a disappointment this was when I put the CD on. In the past, when Madness did cover versions, they always did it in their own (often radically different) style. This is an album with Madness playing reggae and ska cover versions that, with a few exceptions (Rain, Lola and Keep Me Hangin' On), sound almost exactly like the originals. What's wrong with that? Well, if I wanted faithful reproductions of classic covers, I'd go and see a pub covers band. There are so many session brass players on this that Lee's sax hardly features and Chrissy Boy hardly played on any tracks. It just doesn't sound like Madness; it's Suggs doing karaoke. Bring on the new ORIGINAL studio album.

A mixed bag this, generally a collection of A and B sides and very good it is too, proving that Madness were one of the few groups who put as much time and effort into B sides and Album tracks as the singles we all know and love. 'Madness', the track that gave them thier name and B side to thier first single 'The Prince', is every bit as good a toe tapper as you remember it being, 'Mistakes', the B side to 'One Step Beyond' is probably the weakest track here, although it is by means poor, it is just a little less 'polished' than the others and shows it's origins as one of the first original compositions the boys came up with.
