'Simple Equation' and 'Sarah's Song' are both taken from the musical 'Our House' and sound great. The 21 quality tracks make it definitely worth its money!

Madness are unpredicable musically. I can safely each track has a different style but are all equally brilliant. Madness are one of the only bands to be able to change there musical sound constantly from song to song unlike most bands. 10/10 Divine!

The Business: the Definitive Singles Collection

Potentially good compilation of singles, B-sides and rarities, except that:
1) Short interviews have been placed between the songs- mildly interesting first time round, but you won't to hear them every time. So you'll want to program them out (and there are a lot of them). Unfortunately....
2) You *can't* do that because they haven't been put on separate tracks, just stuck onto the end of the songs. So you have to manually skip them using the "next track" button. But...
3) The interviews start before the songs have finished, so you get these people talking *over* the fadeout (and in at least one case over the start of the next song). If you ever taped songs off the radio as a kid, you'll be familiar with this, but I bet you never thought ... Read More:

A mixed bag this, generally a collection of A and B sides and very good it is too, proving that Madness were one of the few groups who put as much time and effort into B sides and Album tracks as the singles we all know and love. 'Madness', the track that gave them thier name and B side to thier first single 'The Prince', is every bit as good a toe tapper as you remember it being, 'Mistakes', the B side to 'One Step Beyond' is probably the weakest track here, although it is by means poor, it is just a little less 'polished' than the others and shows it's origins as one of the first original compositions the boys came up with. Absolutely

By the time this was released, Madness had a huge recording budget. This meant their best songs got the best production possible: you can hear every subtle bit of fun on these tracks.

This was the phase before they went a bit serious and still enjoyed singing about quirky, unusual and strange aspects of life, all with the sense of fun and stupidity of a Carry On film.

The hit singles are there, and album tracks like In the Rain and Disappear are better than their later singles.

Sorry

I've followed the Madness story since Baggy Trousers and have been very happy with the stuff they've put out since they reformed. I'm going against the flow here and have to say I don't care much for this single. The Sway/Baby Blue version is best, but the versions are all quite similar.
I have two problems with the single:
a: is it really a Clanger/Winstanley production coz it sounds rushed and the vocals are particularly poor, not something I've ever heard before on a Madness record.
b: is it really Madness? This lacks any of the trademark sounds (apart from the vocals) The piano intro made me want more Barson, but there was none. The brass is nice, but where is Lees' fantastic sax. It's sad to say but it could be anyone. "Wonderful" had all those trademarks ... Read More:

This is non-stop classic Madness: the album tracks are as good as their later hit singles; the melodies are superb; the arrangements enjoyable; the lyrics witty and the track-order runs like a non-stop don't-wanna-get-off funfair ride!

This was their last album before they went a bit serious, so anyone who loves the nutty, nutty sound might like this one best.

Madness - Nw5 [DVD AUDIO]

Madness prove they still have what it takes 30 years down the road from their first single The Prince. This has all the classic Madness hallmarks - thumping piano, great sax breaks, melancholy lyrics given an upbeat twist by the melody.

The tracklisting shown against this product is however not correct - what you actually get here is a DVD with video tracks of the following:

(1) NW5 (a montage of clips of various Madness shows over the last year or so).
(2) Night Boat To Cairo (live)
(3) My Girl (live)
(4) It Must Be Love (live)

The last 3 tracks are actually just Suggs and Mike Barson on piano (not the whole band) in a tent at the Bestival festival last year playing the songs acoustically.
