Send Away the Tigers

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date May 07, 2007
I have been a fan of the Manics since they started and I can quite honestly say that after a few rather below par offerings this is a welcome return to form. Strong songwriting, lots of passion, lots of politics, just a great Manics album. You will not be disappointed.

Forever Delayed: Greatest Hits

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date October 28, 2002
As another reviewer rightly states, this is not a Greatest Hits package that a Manics devotee would necessarily give their approval too. Bands with such back catalogues are doomed to disappoint someone when they finally succoumb to the cop-out that allows them to release an "album" without actually having to be creative.

Having said that, a singles collection from one of Britain's most popular bands of the last 20 years is very welcome in my house.
There is a theme running through the majority of CDs I've bought in the last 5 years or so. During my student years I was (a) a Blur AND Oasis fan and (b) skint. So I bought Parklife and Definitely Maybe and so on, without being able to afford the "support feature" groups, e.g. Manics, ... Read More:

The Holy Bible

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date November 04, 2002
Every reviewer seems to go on and on about how great the lyrics are in this album, and that's this album in a nutshell. Musically it has little to offer, and compared to Everything Must Go or the more similar Generation Terrorists it's really quite embarrassing.
The music is very simplistic and underproduced.

The parallells that some ppl draw between this album and In Utero by Nirvana is just insane. This album isn't even half the masterpiece In Utero is.

I would only recommend this album to lyric-freaks and to major fans who already own the 4 albums that sandwiched it.

The Holy Bible 10th Anniversary Edition [2CD + DVD]

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date December 06, 2004
The Holy Bible, originally released in 1994,was the Manic's third album, and remains their one genuine claim to greatness. In fact it now stands as one of the very best albums of the 90s,standing with the likes of My Bloody Valentine's Loveless or Spiritualized's Ladies And Gentlemen We Are Floating In Space. This tenth anniversary reissue contains demos, radio sessions and a US mix of the album along with a demo with videos, live performances and a sadly brief (30 minutes or so)interview with the band.Contrary to what one of the previous reviewers says, the differences in sound between the original and US mixes of the album are considerable, with some of the more scratchy post-punk-y sounding tracks made to sound more stadium-friendly.Revol and Yes in particular benefit ... Generation Terrorists

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date November 04, 2002
This is an album that shaped rock music as we know it. It's one of those that grabs you right from the off and pulls you in right until the very end. Yes, that's despite all 18 tracks of it.....

So it fuses James Dean Bradfield's wailing guitar, Nicky Wire's punching bass and sometimes controversial lyrics, Richey James's brilliant topical discussions, as well as Sean Moore's relentless drumming. Sounds all right doesn't it. But can it sustain the quality needed for 74 minutes?

You bet.

You see, after purchasing their latest offering, 'Send Away The Tigers', I was keen to know what Nicky Wire meant when he said that the Manics were trying to 'recreate their old sound'. So I bought their debut, 'Generation Terrorists'.

You simply must buy this album!
For me,it's the Manics best album and full of cracking songs.
Everything Must Go,Kevin Carter,A Design For Life - it's just packed full of songs that sound great.
There is so much energy and enthusiasm in their songs and when you take the time to really listen to the lyrics you begin to see the political undertones and great intelligence of the band.

The last album to feature contributions from Richey James before he disappeared in 1995,it has gone double platinum and is a masterpiece of the Britpop scene.

Everything Must Go

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date May 01, 1996
This is one of my all time favourite albums I've ever bought. I purchased it when it first came out in 1996. The one thing I love about this is that it's very unusual at times with some very interesting chord structures. Unlike a lot of artists this album doesn't have any fillers as all the songs are top notch. It even features a brilliant trumpet solo in the track Kevin Carter. This album should really get the same critical acclaim as Pink Floyd's The Dark Side Of The Moon as it is trully excellent as I'm sure it's allready a classic.

LifeBlood

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date November 01, 2004
I guess the manics could release a country album and I'd still love it!
Once again different to anything they've done before (but I'm getting used to that...after all each of their albums is unique), but still it's the typical manic street preachers style.
The album has great lyrics, and James delivers them with so much devotion (as he always does) that it gives you goosebumps (in a positive way). Sometimes the drums sound a bit electronical and artificial, and since I think Sean Moore is the most versatile, most inventive and most genious (and fastest) of all drummers I know, this is a bit sad, but on the other hand the fact he made it sound that way shows his greatness even more, because combined with the music, the electronical/artificial drums sound really good (but I love the ... Gold Against the Soul

by: Manic Street Preachers

Release Date November 04, 2002
This, along with 'Generation Terrorists' was a tantalising hint at the greatness that would come on the Manic Street Preacher's landmark, career-defining masterpiece, 1994's 'The Holy Bible'. The songs are polished, yet frequently intense.

It has often been said that 'Sleepflower' was the Manics attempt at a grunge song, and if so, it was a very valiant effort, since it sounds very much like a Nirvana song. James vocals appear to have improved drastically since 'Generation Terrorists', whilst the lyrics are radically different to GT, and less political. 'From Despair To Where', follows in the same glossy vein, sounding highly-produced and expensive. Indeed, the Manics did spend a fortune on recording this album, to a ridiculous extent, and this is certainly clear from the production values. ... Read More:
