I Don't Want to Miss a Thing

Here's a funny thing - normally classy country songs are taken by pop acts, the country sound removed, and are then repackaged as epic boyband ballads (think Ronan, Wetlife, etc). Here a famous rock ballad is given the country treatment - and it's not bad, though I don't know the Aerosmith version well enough to do a fair comparision. Got a very odd fade, sounds like it's not quite finished.

I'm a big Mark Chesnutt fan but can't rate this as one of his strongest, feels a bit cobbled together. Still, "That's The Way to Make an Ex" and "Tonight I'll Let My Memory Take Me Home" both have that classic 'nutt sound, and "Jolie" stands out with it's cajun sound.

Not his best, but with some great high points.

This compilation covers the period 1989 to 1996, so anybody looking for I don't want to miss a thing (from 1999) should look elsewhere. Instead, what you get here are a dozen brilliant songs, over half of which were number one country hits, deservedly so.

The best track here is Too cold at home, a real tearjerker of the kind George Jones is remembered for. Mark does this extremely well. Other great ballads here include Ol' country and I'll think of something.

Mark can also do the upbeat songs too, though some of these are actually quite sad, the musical backing hiding what the song is really about. Typical of these is Brother Jukebox, a song first recorded by Don Everly in the mid-seventies, which is about the emptiness of a man's life. ... Read More:

Every now and then an album comes along that reminds you why country music has the power to move and entertain.This is just such an album.It is the album that I always believed Mark Chesnutt had the talent to make.He set himself the task of covering some really good songs and interpreting them. Not as easy as it sounds,it is easy to copy, but to give something to a song needs ability and talent.
On this album you will hear country music that can make the hair on your neck prickle, and if anyone had told me I would hear one of Hags songs performed better than he, well I wouldn't have believed it until A Shoulder To Cry On hits the speakers. As this is followed by Tommy Collins' Goodbye Comes Hard For Me, it was some experience.
