Hearing this double act for the first time was commensurate to me with hearing I Get Around or I Feel Fine for the first time,swathes of vocal beauty matched with best Motown track that Carol Kaye et al never played on,everything on this disc reeks of Sixties RnB majesty,everything is perfectly arranged and executed,not a single note is wasted,within four bars Valerie becomes the song it was always meant to be,after hearing Ronson re invent Sail On Sailor on the Electric Proms,Ifound myself thinking to myself what I'd always felt was an impossibility,that being that anyone could produce a Wilson song better than the great man or his lil' brother,there seem to be no limitis to Ronsons talent,his rosta of artists on his cd harken back to Phillies greatest ... I heard this fantastic track in March and was captured by the depth and emotional sound coming through my car stero. Not hearing who the artist was I prayed for it to be played everytime I was in the car. I would flick stations trying to hear it then realised it was featured I believe soley on Radio 1. Say what you may about Mark Ronson, but there is something extremely unique about him that gives him a real selling point. Even if he has shot to fame with a covers album that's seen him bring in the likes of Amy Winehouse and Robbie Williams to help out, (that album being the now BRIT nominated Version) it's still better than half the albums that have come out in the last 6 months or so. This new single from it is further proof of that fact.
A cover of the old Radiohead track "Just", Ronson brings in the vocal talent of Phantom Planet vocalist Alex Greenwald, best known to all as the band behind the O.C. theme tune "California" which hit the UK top 5 in March 2005.
