Hey y'all meat pup's fans,
This was the first Pup's album i bought and i NEVER lived to regret it. Bought like many puppets fans after hearing unplugged. I was blown away by those famous three tracks, escpicially Plateau and Lake Of Fire. A lonely guy named Kurt loved this album, and so should you.
It gave a nice base for them to build on after the frankly dismal 'Meat Puppets (I)' album. If you want punk there's nothing wrong with MP I. However, if you want sweet calm chill music with a splatter of psycadelica, MP II is gonna be your first MP album of many.
Categorising MP II is impossible, as it clearly comes from many influences. However, Kurt Kirkwood (Meat Puppets leading man) described them as "world beat" ... Read More:

Ive been a longstanding Meat Puppets fan since 1991 when amidst all the Nirvana hype i heard Sam come blasting out of their Forbidden Places album and it changed my life forever!
This band are criminally underrated or whenever they are its always in conjunction with Nirvana, which is a shame as they are far superior in sound and innovation. Quite frankly they bury Nirvana!
Why? Well shut up and listen to this record and NOT the prejudicial journos who wouldnt know a work of art from a fart. FOAD, you morons.
From opener Violet Eyes its obvious who the masters are. Are you listening Nirvana? The guitars are so deliciously sliced with thee most gorgeous voice that is Curt(not Cobain!) Kirkwood. That voice alone caused me to fall in love with this ... Read More:

Well, you may have heard this a million times, but hey, this is thepsychadelic 'epic' of the pups'. After a half dozen U-turns of previousalbums, the spagetti junction arrived. Mirage. It just redefines youropinion on alternate 80's music. Some of the songs, notably the title track and 'The Mighty' are justamazing. Unfortunetly, a couple of the songs are 'fillers', notably Track6, 'Get on Down' (funny video thou) and 11, 'Love Our Children forever'.However, when an average track is like 'Leaves' or 'A hundred miles', youend up with one swell album. After a disappointing first two albums (the second of which is now one oftheir most popular, proabably due to Cobain using 3 songs from it onunplugged), a highly unrated 3rd and a seemingly invisible fourth, ... This has got to rate as their best album ever. From opener Sam with its hyperspeed inventive eccentric lyrical attack and innovative guitar assault this was far more interesting than anything Nirvana or anyone else doing the rounds in 1991 had to offer!
This Day is so sublime and dreamscape desert rock at its best before anyone knew who QOTSA were.
Open Wide really throws them in their stride with ferocious drums and guitars coming at you with a new sound you've never heard before, and its amazing.
Another Moon is so infectiously catchy you wouldnt imagine music could get any better.
Whirlpool has the most incredible lyrics, "there was a swirling mass of water that lived in a quiet pond. It asked permission from its master if it could visit ... Read More:

Just when you thought they could get no higher with Too High To Die, guess what? They go even higher with this their 9th album, and boy they are out there in realms only the enlightened can go.
This is serious head music with the breathtaking opening drum roll that spews Scum, hurling out some leviathan riffs most bands would die for! They strut out in such confidence of their unique and often plagiarized sound which has just gone up a gear, but when it comes to this no one does it better. They are a law unto themselves.
Nothing further underlines their majesty as Curt Kirkwood demands your attention and whispers more secrets of the expanding universe and takes you on an outta body outta mind journey! Listen to this man, he could cure you.
Head is ... Read More:

This is a pretty amazing album from an extremely amazing band. In my opinion, the Meat Puppets have never received enough recognition for how great band they were and are. They truly have a style of their own and this album proves just how innovative and original they are.
Their blend of Country, Punk and Fuzzy Rock has always been addictive to me and this albums proves to be just as addictive as the rest.

As far as I understand, the Meat Puppets never considered themselves a punk band, but just kind of let themselves be carried along, no pretense otherwise, but no real intention, by whatever they felt inside, whatever they liked and whatever resonated with them that was around them. Thus the Meat Puppets could be these insane monsters on this first ep and lp (and bonus early recordings) and then easily move on to being 'stoner country' (or something) and kind of funky, finger picking and dreamy, and 'college rock' (or something), and whatever else later in their 'career'.
So this is kind of punk, kind of hardcore punk even, but also not exactly, the categories being too limiting and pinning down unrealistically, and that fact also corresponds to the general ... Read More:
