I have a soft spot for Melissa's music and admittedly, this is in some ways like most other Christmas albums as there are token songs that you expect from any artist on an album like this. However, Melissa clearly took time to be original (as always) and her spirit and passion for inspiring healing, freedom, peace, and redemption just shines through brilliantly particularly with tracks like "Light a Light," and "Glorious." "It's Christmas Time" makes me want to worship and scream and jump around all at once, which is rare on a Christmas album. Her song "O Night Devine," is essentially a rock electric guitar rendition of "Oh Holy Night," and it really is divine in the fact that it calls to the spirit that is often lost in over-done Christmas ... Greatest Hits - The Road Less Traveled

I love Springsteen, Bob Seger, Mellencamp and Petty, great American rockers. I was intrigued by Etheridge. I did not really know her music and I was given a few Etheridge albums to listen to and thought each of them had some very good songs but overall, the albums were just ok. I bought this and was very impressed. A great collection of songs sung with real passion. Great voice (which reminds me a little of Bonnie Tyler!). A great introduction to Etheridge and well worth buying if you do not have any of her music in your collection and you like American rock. Thoroughly enjoyable. Recommended.

Yes I Am

Absolutely Amazing!!!! I cant really think of any other way to describe this album. This is Melissa at her truest.. The lyrics are painfully honest and the beats are fantastic. My personal favourite is Silent Legacy, but there is not one song on this album I do not like. I Love them all!!! This is one of those albums that just will not age. Definately an album you'll find yourself singing to time and time again. To Melissa fans: Well, need I say more? This is a definite must!!!! To anyone curious to hear what Melissa Etheridge is all about: This is THE album to show u exactly that. Buy it!! You definately wont regret it!!!

The Awakening

I am an ardent fan of Melissa ... been to her concerts here in the UK and in the States, and actually even feature on her Live And Alone DVD in a meet and greet session. So I know what I'm talking about when I say ... this is Melissa at her best. We are lucky to be walking her journey with her as she plays the soundtrack to her life, and ours. Or indeed, creates it. A deep sense of spirituality pervades this album, as well as a consciousness of herself, her place in the world and the change she dreams of effecting by becoming. 'Threesome', 'Imagine that' and 'Kingdom' are brave, revealing and powerful, each for very different reasons in different contexts. WOW!!
The first but definitely not last album of Ms Etheridge's that I have gotten my hands on. I can't recommend it enough.
Each note seems to seep out of the speakers and dive into ones very soul stirring emotions hidden away. The album to me seems to follow the story of a painful break up and the ensuing road to recovery...

The album begins with `Lover please' which captures the immediate aftermath of an unexpected break up....an imploring yet angry and hurt plea to return home without any of the soppiness most songs of this nature tend to take. One of my favourites!

Lucky

I first heard Melissa Etheridge's music in the early 90s when I was in America and was lucky enough to see her in concert at Jones Beach, Long Island, which is an open-air ampitheatre, one warm summer's evening, and she just blew me away. That concert was probably the best I have ever been to and is something I will never forget. She has one of the strongest, most unique voices around as well as being a fantastic guitarist and songwriter. I have all of her albums and this is definitely one of her best, although they are all good, particularly Yes I Am and Brave & Crazy (which has the amazing song, You Can Sleep While I Drive on). A good solid CD from Melissa, with a mix of soft, flowing tracks and some good hard rock tracks. As with all her previous releases, she seems to know what she is saying, but on this CD she seems to be losing the direction in which she is going.

From the gentle, heartfelt tracks of Shriners Park, and Nowhere to Go, through to the pulsing rock beats of An Unusual Kiss, her talent shines through, and this should appeal to her established fans, as well as new listeners. Buy it.

Never Enough

Now that we have the advantage of hindsight it seems clear that "Never Enough" was basically an album where Melissa Etheridge went into a cocoon. I mean, think about it. Here first two albums enjoyed some success and basically mined what gold there was to be had from the first stage of her career when she played in small clubs. So there is a sense in which "Never Enough" is an exploration of her options. Certainly there is more musical diversity on this album than any of the others we have seen from her to date, from the solo piano on "The Letting Go" to the industrial percussion on "2001." Brave And Crazy

Brave and Crazy is no manufactured music. Melissa seems to feel every note and word. Full of hard-edged, sometimes tortured emotion, but never wet or soppy.
You know when you find an album you feel is perfect? I first discovered this about 15 years ago - thought it was perfect then, and still think so today.
If you like intelligent rock you'll probably love this.
