On this album, Michael has mainly avoided the obvious traditional carols but shows he is well capable of singing those by including Silent night (with Brian Kennedy), Have yourself a merry little Christmas, O holy night and Ave Maria. Several of the other songs may not strictly fit the Christmas theme but I’ve seen all of them on other Christmas albums – these are covers of River (Joni Mitchell), A winter’s tale (David Essex), Happy new year (Abba), From a distance (Nanci Griffith) and Amazing grace. More conventional Christmas fare is offered via covers of When a child is born (a UK #1 hit in the seventies for Johnny Mathis) and the rocking Driving home for Christmas (Chris Rea).

This album is OK but to me Michael's voice is not best suited to these songs. The orchestra and arrangements are very good but Michael does not seem at ease with the songs. His album 'Music' was superb and the songs were a good mixture of slow and fast tempo. Also, there is a lyric error on Make it easy on yourself. Michael says 'if the way I hold you cant compare to his embrace'. The word embrace should be caress as the next line 'no words of consolation can make me miss you less' rhymes with it. A minor error but an unnecessary one. This album is for die hard Michael fans only. However, his latest dvd is superb and shows Michael at his best, in front of a live theatre audience.

Michael Ball sings with his magnificent voice, AND SOUL - each CD seems to be better than the last. In this Cd he has taken some older songs (as well as one he has written)and makes them his own. His interpretation gives me goose bumps, of the nicest kind! Another superb album.
Release Date October 30, 2006
I am a definitely a Michael Ball fan. I think he has a great voice and his live concerts are always great value. But this album just doesn't do it for me. I thought "Music" was fantastic but this one doesn't quite live up to those standards. For me, there are no high points on this album - they are just good songs performed well but nothing makes me "tingle", my mark of a great album. Michael Ball fans will enjoy this album, but if you're not a Michael Ball fan you may be left wondering what all the fuss is about!

Anyone who has seen Les Mis knows what a magical spell it throws on you once you have seen it. I was dragged there to watch it, and was spellbound. I was not lucky enough to see the original cast, and this album was a great opportunity to hear them.
Although the production could have been better (there is some hasty cut and pasting going on between songs!)the voices shine through. It does, though, lack the emotion of the actual proper musical itself, rather than the artists singing tracks alone.
Enjoy, but check out the show...its the real thing!

Wow, what a disc! This CD is billed as the last recording of the St Pauls organ before restoration but it sounds anything but. The organ sounds superb and the performer, Huw Williams, delivers all the pieces with aplomb and really brings out both the power and the subtlety of the St Pauls organ. The choice of works is excellently varied and the recording quality superb. Highlights include the festive Dubois Toccata, Guy Bovet's pulsating prelude 'Hamburg' and the haunting 'Master Tallis's Testament' (Howells.) In short, a must-have for all pipe organ fans!

For my money, this is Michael Ball's best CD so far, with a perfect mix of musical hits, ballads and rock songs to showcase his remarkable talent and versatility. It was recorded live at the Royal Albert Hall, with Michael introducing his songs and explaining why they are special to him, which is a bonus. I saw him for the first time (though not the last!) in concert at the Royal Concert Hall, Nottingham, last October, and this is the album I play when I want to evoke the atmosphere of that sensational evening. Although it doesn't contain some of the newer songs he performed that night (including his own gently uplifting composition "Just When") it has everything I need. Hot Stuff and the Blues Brothers Medley have me dancing around the house ... Read More:

With frequent work on stage productions by Andrew Lloyd-Webber and others, it may be that Michael's acting career is more important than his singing career. However, Michael is a fine singer as this double-CD clearly proves.
Reflecting his dual role as singer and actor, this set includes many stage songs, rightly opening with Love changes everything (from Andrew Lloyd Webber's Aspects of love), which gave Michael a UK number two hit in 1989 and remains his only really big hit.
Michael came second (the fate of so many UK entries) in the 1992 Eurovision song contest but it only just made the UK top twenty in the singles charts. He has had other minor UK hits but they are not included here.
Some of the songs here comes from shows in ... Read More:
