I loved "Spain", but had thought that the jazz-flamenco fusion in "Spain again" would only repeat the first. However, this is a new genre with huge potential for change and innovation, as "Spain again" shows. This time Tomatito and Camilo (joined Juan Luis Guerra) have taken Argentinean Tango, plus jazz and flamenco standards, and given them the fusion treatment. The result is an exhilarating, yet sensitive flamenco jazz. It leaves me crying out for more.

This album is a fantastic. From the opening blues of One more Once, each track stands out. First, the recording has been beautifully captured and mixed, even with such dense layers of instruments, everything comes out clearly and the bottom end really kicks. Then there are the songs. "Why" Not has been recorded elsewhere, but works better in this incarnation with big band backing. "The Resolution" is a lovely solo piano piece that straddles classical and latin, and highlight's Michel's touch and melodic awareness. "Suite Sandrine", one of a group of pieces dedicated to is wife, starts in mysterious fashion, before kicking in with slow tempo horns and doubled bass and baritone sax. It then takes a twist into salsa for the main theme. It feels ... Read More:

Another great recording by Michel Camilo, who, by the way is from the Dominican Republic, not Puerto Rico. It seems his style can work in just about any musical situation, from classical to trio to big band, and now on this superlative recording with the beautiful flamenco guitar of Tomatito. Michel recorded an excellent buleria form piece on 'Rendezvous' (El Realejo) so his percussive, highly rhythmical yet sensitively melodic style clearly works with the passion of flamenco. Spain is the kind of album that, when you get to the end you just want to go back to the beginning and play it again, and there can be no higher praise. Highly recommended.

While listening this new album of Michel Camilo, I can hardly find any words to describe what someone can gain by hearing this record. His technique is tremendous.
Spirit of the moment as Camilo considers in the CD booklet, should be heard as three parts of four chapters each. Tracks 1-4 contains Afro-Caribbean sources, tracks 5-8 pronounced jazz roots and finally tracks 9-12 a forward-looking synthesis.
Tracks that I have picked out: " Just now", "Repercussions", "Giant Steps", "Hurry up and wait", "A place in time"
To my mind that kind of record must be heard from 1 to 12 non stop. Maybe a glass of wine, a comfortable couch could be some good supplements of this CD. However Michel Camilo's music cannot be compared ... Read More:

Michel Camilo performs a variety of pieces, some slow and thoughtful, some frenetic. All are richly improvised around and the music simply radiates the fun that the musicians must have had recording this CD. From the first velvety chords I was hooked and at the end was left wanting to hear it all again...
