Then I heard Trio in Tokoyo and worked my way through all his albums of the 1990's. All of them are excellent. Best of all is the truly amazing Eddy Louiss - Hammond Organ/Michel Petrucciani - Piano Conference de Presse a double CD of duets. Nothing will ever be as good as this. Well ...plays Petrucciani is very close. From the storming opening two tracks to the end this is Jazz of the highest quality. In all honesty I've never heard Petrucciani play any better than he does here. The improvisations and ideas just flow out of him. It also helps to have a tremendous rhythm section. So is a rather early Petrucciani-recording (the artist being only 20 years old) - never the less, it gives us a chance to listen to at musician already developed far more than his young age should suggest. The CD starts out with "Turn Around" - an Ornette Coleman composition which Petrucciani included in almost all his concerts for many years. From the basic, rhythmic structure of the melody, Petrucciani gradually develops and improvises over the theme - and in the end lands it right back on its feet again.
