There will be some younger rips who have never heard of this band of 5 young men from Salisbury in Wiltshire in England, but what a great deal of amazing music they have missed. Along with their side-kicks from nearby Andover in The Troggs, together, these two 'West Country Bands' virtually dominated the UK Top 40 from 1966 and into the early 1970's.
Agreed, I bought this for my wife who is a massive fan still to this day, and although the tracks are the same we were disappointed in getting a black and white picture of the band on the CD cover rather then this lush, colour jobby. Very Best Of + DVD

This to a Stones fan would always be expected to raise the question; "why did Mick want to do it?" Well over the years I've bought everything any of the Stones has produced and I find this album has grown on me over the months I've had it in the car.
Yes I know Disco beats and such are "Out of Time" but it does still sound good! As most of the album does not try to be anything other than a different slant on the same Stones theme; with its mixture if Soul, Reggae and Rock, it genuinely reflects Mick's work and the energy he brings to it.
Listen and pick out your favourites because I have been surprised how some of the less well known have really grown on me. You might be disappointed at first listen but Memo from Turner to Just another ... Read More:

Tribute To Bobby (CD + DVD)

Blues in the album chart? Almost felt like a moral obligation to buy this. I can see that Simply Red fans will be confused and its not normal fare for blues fans but its mostly well done and there isn't a huge amount of truly modern blues that can cross over into wider tastes and if Mick doesn't sing as well as Bobby its still credit to him for bringing his hero to wider attention.
The dvd is interesting. Mick comes across as a bit of an arse but talks about this as his future musical direction so it will be interesting to see if that holds true.

Alfie: Original Soundtrack

After watching the film, i was really excited about the soundtrack..... but how disapointed i was!!
The music in the film is all out funky, a little bit sexy, with a big dose of cool. Great Ambiance. Not like this album of non-stop Mick Jagger (and god knows i LOVE the stones, don't get me wrong). If the soundtrack had consisted of music from the film it would have been fab.... Love TKO(Teddy Pendergrass) ....Don't worry about it(NERD) .....for the love of you(Isley Brothers) ......i can't stand the rain(Anne Peebles)......womans got soul(BB King); these are the best songs in the film, so why aren't they on the soundtrack?
It could have been great.... but it ain't!!

Goddess in the Doorway

I bought this album after seeing the Being Mick documentary, at first listen, I fell in love with so many of the tracks, the beautiful "Visions of Paradise", a love song the summarises a the true frustrations of relationships and is it not blind to "we'll be in love forever" as so many other songs are. The rejoiceful "Joy" co vocaled with Bono, is another instant classic, brilliant lyrics and arrangement. "Dancing in the Starlight" has beautiful backing vocals and "God gave me Everything" is another great track! Then comes "Hideaway" a humourus song about fleeing the city to escape an ex lover. "Don't Call Me Up" is similair to Bridges to Babylons "Already over Me", it's a showcase of Micks still tremendousa vocal talent, something I personally thought had gone in ... Read More:

The quality of these songs makes this album a good classic of the 90s as Mick goes through an great variety of styles with great enthusasium. There's real Stones rock in Wired All Night, Out Of Focus and Put Me In The Trash; funk in Sweet Thing; blues rock in Don't Tear Me Up and Use Me; country music in Evening Gown and Hang On To Me Tonight; Angel In My Heart and Handsome Molly aren't worth mentioning. Brilliant music - great lyrics put in a clear book. It's like those late 60s and early 70s Stones albums where every song is a great. Mick sings his heart out and puts most of modern rock music in the trash.

Intoxicated Man: Songs of Serge Gainsbourg Sung in English By Mick Harvey &Anita Lane

This is an interesting blend of the bizarre and beautiful hits of Serge Gainsbourg from the late 60's/70's translated into English for those of us who do not understand the French version I presume! Well worth a listen, especially if your music tastes are normally bland and uninspired. But if you're already turned on by quirky easy listening ballads then this may be a little mild for you. Favourite tracks include: Ford Mustang, Barrel of my 45, harley Davidson. I still prefer the originals but anything that invites people to check out Serge Gainsbourg is cool in my opinion!

Mick's Back

"Mick's Back" is Mick Abraham's third solo album after coming out of retirement. It may not be quite up to the level of his 1991 album, "All Said and Done", but it isn't far off. Released in July of 1996, this album features over 50 minutes of blues, with Mick playing the guitar better than ever. Mick is backed by The Norman Beaker Band, and the combination is dynamic. My personal favorites on this CD are "The Rivers Invitation", "Bad Feeling", "Time to Love", "Long Grey Mare", and "Yolanda", but all the selections are well worth a listen.
