"Mick's Back" is Mick Abraham's third solo album after coming out of retirement. It may not be quite up to the level of his 1991 album, "All Said and Done", but it isn't far off. Released in July of 1996, this album features over 50 minutes of blues, with Mick playing the guitar better than ever. Mick is backed by The Norman Beaker Band, and the combination is dynamic. My personal favorites on this CD are "The Rivers Invitation", "Bad Feeling", "Time to Love", "Long Grey Mare", and "Yolanda", but all the selections are well worth a listen.
The album has a good mix of Mick's own compositions with those from Percy Mayfield, Peter Green, Willie Dixon, and others. Mick sings and plays acoustic and slide guitars. The Norman Beaker ... Read More:

Mick Abrahams had a stormy start to his recording career. As the original guitarist from Jethro Tull he recorded one album with them, "This Was", and then he was compelled to leave when Ian Anderson's vision for where the band should go did not match his own. He then formed Blodwyn Pig and managed to stay with that group for two albums, "Ahead Rings Out" and "Getting to This", before once again leaving due to musical differences. This album, "Mick Abrahams" is Mick's first album after leaving Blodwyn Pig.
The album is sometimes referred to as "Mick Abrahams" and other times as "A Musical Evening with the Mick Abrahams Band", and is sometimes credited as a solo album and other times credited to the group called "The Mick Abrahams ... Read More:

I bought this because I had the definite pleasure of seeing Mick live a few years back. I hope Mick won't mind me saying this but his band sounds like the best pub band you will ever see in your life.
The sound lets this recording down as it doesn't do justice to the lovely rich Strat tone or full, bluesy voice that Mick pulls off. This man is a very, very good guitarist. I just wish the sound quality on the cd was better.

This CD is a departure for Mick, as the entire album is acoustic and he goes solo on all but four of the tracks. On those four tracks he is joined by Ian Anderson; recording with Mick for the first time since the first Jethro Tull album "This Was". Mick plays acoustic guitar and sings on the entire album, and Ian backs him with flute, mandolin, and harmonica on the non-solo tracks.
I prefer Mick's electric work, but there are several enjoyable tracks on this CD. "Saunton Strut" is a tremendous display of guitar playing. "Do Re Mi", "13 Question Method", "How Can a Poor Man Stand Such Times and Live", and "Billy The Kid" also come to mind as among the better pieces. Four of the fourteen tracks are Mick's own compositions, the rest ... Read More:

Mick Abrahams return album, "All Said and Done" (1991), is as fine as anything he has ever done. This is an excellent blues album, with fourteen tracks comprised of seven tunes written by Mick (two of which were collaborations with Gordon `Mississippi' Murphy), two new arrangements of traditional pieces, and five covers of older blues pieces.
The pieces written by Mick are quite good, starting with "Road Roller" which opens the album. Then there is the absolutely fantastic "All Tore Down" which is probably my favorite tune that Mick has ever done. Another noteworthy piece is "Dear Jane" which is very similar to "Dear Jill" from his days in Blodwyn Pig. Another great piece is the title song of the album "All Said and Done", which is ... "Live in Madrid" was released in November of 1997, but it is a recording of one of the last concerts that Mick did in 1974 prior to his retirement which he finally returned from in 1991. Unfortunately, the sound quality on this CD does not live up to the performance, and for whatever reason this is most evident on the vocals. That being said, there are some great moments, especially when it comes to the guitar work. Some of the highlights are: "Let's Get Down to Business", "Wanna Know How to Love", "Stay with Me", and Mick's signature "Cat Squirrel".
The documentation on this CD is fairly poor. The CD contains liner notes written by Harry Shapiro, but they have more to do with Mick's career than this particular album. There is no listing ... Read More:

In July of 2000, Mick released his first studio album in three years titled "See My Way", and not surprisingly it had a newly recorded version of that Blodwyn Pig classic, and reunited him with another original member of that group, Andy Pyle. In addition there are either eleven or twelve additional tracks, depending on which version of the CD you get. The original CD had 12 tracks and was released by A New Day Records on July 3rd of 2000. A `Special Edition' was released later that year on Mick's Squirrel Music label, and included the bonus track "Heartbreak Blues".
This is another very strong album from Mick, since coming out of retirement. He wrote all but two of the tracks. Two of the tracks are new versions of tunes he recorded with ... Read More:
