I must say I was really looking forward to listening to Minnie's new album because I genuinely enjoyed her first album. I would like to say I was blown away by her latest attempt but I wasn't. I was disappointed for the most part although there are a few redeeming songs on the album, namely Mockingbird, London Skies and Love is Love. These songs are magnificent, a triumph on an otherwise befuddled, lackluster album. Minnie can't seem to decide whether she wants to sing country, folk or pop and combining all three, sometimes all in one song, is painful to listen to and just downright frustrating because we all know how talented she is. Everything I've Got In My Pocket

I love music, but find it such an intensely personal thing that I find it tough to explain why I like the stuff I like, and consequently I tend to stick to advising against stuff I don't like.

In the case of this CD, though, I will make an exception.

Minnie Driver has clearly followed her heart with this recording, rather than the guidance of some stylist or agent. This is proper grown-up music, not some Hollywood cash-in, and is brilliantly done. The fact that her backing band are a proper band, with proper band chemistry, rather than bunch of session musicians, makes all the difference.

Invisible Girl

I like Minnie Drivers records. There. I've said it. They say admitting that you have a problem is the first step towards recovery, but I don't want to be cured.

There is a sweetness and innocence belying her years and past, which makes her singing quite affecting. The self compositions are strong as well, but as always in this country people seem compelled to damn her without reason.

Take a listen without prejudice, and enjoy.

I actually bought this as my friend loved her album. As a birthday gift i bought him tickets to her concert and I gotta say she can sing...shes a really sweet person and her tracks need to be given a chance. I eventually came to like her album. Though its gotta be said Everything Ive Got In My Pocket is my favourite song of her album.
