This latest addition to the Northern Exposure series once again re-emphasises the point that Sasha and John Digweed are two of the best DJ's in the world at this time, both individually brilliant, it's a credit to the music industry that they have yet again come together and assembled one of the finest progressive house/trance albums of recent years. The first CD is undoubtedly the better.. with track two - Space manouvres - Stage One, and track ten Mono Culture - Free standing out in particular. Global Underground 13: Sasha In Ibiza

I agree that the mixing is pretty seamless, as it should be if it's done in a studio. I can't help feeling that this is cheating really: there's a world of difference between mixing live (not necessarily in a club)and creating something in a studio on a computer, i.e. spontenaety.

Along with all the other Global Underground series, this left me totally unmoved. I really don't get it: the whole series just seems to be a triumph of style over substance. Go for some of the Journeys by DJ stuff instead.

This mix celebrates Sasha's popularity in the US and I feel that they must love him for a different reason across the pond.

Ever since hearing Xpander, I have been a massive Sasha fan. I think that he is one of the most talented electronic musicians ever, and his own work is absolutely fantastic. However, Sasha's commercial popularity will never result from his own artistry, but from his legend as a worldwide DJ. He is unquestionably one of the most popular DJs in the world, but I really don't think that this album does him any justice.

The reviews below are superb and cover in great detail this album. I will say the first time i heard the album, it didn't blow me away apart from the standout tracks i couldn't enjoy it quite in the same way i had previous Sasha albums...but having returned to it a few times i'm starting to love it almost as much as Airdrawndagger and Involver etc...

The intro is superb and totally different from the norm with the space-computer tech theme and lazer beam style effects ..."checking freqencies...bruuuurrrrbbb bruuurrrbbbb"...put a smile straight on my face as i turned up the speakers.

The album / mix / soundtrack starts on track 2...and this goes typically ambient followed by the melodic "four squares" track...the pace has been set for tracks ... Read More:

I can understand why many feel disappointed with this mix. I was when I first listened to it. I put it on the shelf and left it.

About 6 months later, after a few beers, I listened to it again and started to realise what it was all about. Since then it's grown into a firm favourite. Not 5 star Euphoria like maybe people expect after the Renaissance cds, but it's not another GU or Renaissance mix.

So,maybe not the best they've ever done but still way ahead of the rest.

This is an interesting mix from Sasha and Diggers - definitely not what I expected from them but this made a nice change. I like the direction they have taken and the mixing is of course excellent, however overall this mix is not the classic their other mixes on global underground or Northen Exposure have been. I don't say this lightly as almost every other one of there mixes I own is still a classic that grows on you continously - I still play them all. This mix simply isn't as inspired and definitely didn't live up to the hype.

Sasha is an artist that is very much like the music equivalent of marmite--u either love him or hate him...for anyone that doesn't know sasha is a world-known DJ that seemingly shot to superstardom over night. Although many people don't like this I think the jump was well worth it. This is my first Sasha CD and all I can say is this is completely different to anything Ive heard before.
The first CD starts off with, what I think, is a far too long introduction which quickly builds into chilled progressive trance. Anyone looking for euphoric uplifting tunes like Tiesto does in his Magik series you won't find much here. That's not to say it can't be enjoyed though. this really is a great collection of tracks, all the tracks have been masterfully reworked, grand national starts things off very slowly and then the cd starts building and by the time he drops in unkle's what are you to me, you realise why all the hype about sasha. an obvious highlight being his version of watching cars go by. originally, i didn't like sasha, i found airdrawndagger very dull and some his GU stuff a bit hit and miss. never really picks up to the point where you want to go out and dance, but really is one of my fave dance cds just to sit down and listen to and just appreciate how powerful electronic can be. after 2 or 3 listens i became obsessed with this cd and still am now. buy it now and enjoy!

Global Underground 13: Sasha Live In Ibiza

Those who have heard Sasha's stuff before will of course not be surprised by the quality of the session on this Global Undergound album, and although the G U series have indeed produced some of the finest progressive dance, this has got to be the one of the best of a quality bunch. Sasha sets the scene right from the first beat and with some real blinders (such as BT's mercury and solace and orbitals nothing left) interspersed throughout this is a great one to wind you up for a night out. Don't be put of by the word Ibiza this is a proper session.
