by: Moby

Release Date May 12, 2008
Like the previous reviewer, I would also like to start in questionable fashion... Why on earth are people comparing this to the likes of Play and Hotel? What you all fail to realise is that Moby release's albums centred around a different theme, a feeling. To call him an individual artist to a specific genre is wrong; the likes of Play and Hotel demonstrated his freedom to cross many different sub-genres, whereas this album, (as it CLEARLY explains in the CD booklet, if anyone even bothered to read it) is inspired by his days clubbing with friends until the early mornings around the late 80's/early 90's. 'Nuff said really.

The album itself is quite a refreshing change for todays market, inspired by typical Roland synths from the ... Read More:

Play

by: Moby

Release Date May 17, 1999
Some of Mobys' earlier work dates quite badly. This is not the case with Play it sounds just as fresh as it did all those years ago. This recording is like nothing you've heard before with chilling vocals and superb synths. When this came out it was like someone lit a fuse it seemed new people were "getting it" every week and it was THE album of the summer. You can listen to it now and it's just as moving as it always was. This will not date...

by: Moby

Release Date May 13, 2002
I'm a pretty big fan of Moby but I have never really got on with this album. It's almost as if he picked his favourite part of Play (the end Gospel bit) and stayed there. The result is an album that doesn't go anywhere and has none of the dynamism of earlier work. No matter how many times I listen I find it depressing and hard to enjoy. A real shame.

Go - The Very Best of Moby

by: Moby

Release Date November 06, 2006
Must be Christmas, because here's another Best Of in the racks. Unlike recent, exploitative sets by U2 and Depeche Mode, "Go" has some redeeming factors : namely that it's the first compilation of Moby's work over the past two decades - and also because he's actually put some thought and effort into it.

For example, the tracklisting, whilst at first glance a random assortment of material, features up to four new recordings (a new song, two reworks of oldies, and a foreign language version of "Slipping Away" in some countries), and, spread across the various configurations, 20 hit singles, 11 remixes, a 90 minute documentary, and 31 promo videos. It's sure an expensive time to be a fan, but a bit of careful shopping can see you sated ... Read More:

I agree with the presvious review I'm afraid to say. I love the Bourne Trilogy and the soundtracks have been excellent previously, so unless you are looking for a genuine article to add to your collection then visit an online music store and buy the track. It is a good track though!! :o)

Hotel

by: Moby

Release Date March 14, 2005
OK, I didn't like "18! at all. Compared to the changing moods of Play I found it rather depressing and monotonous. Therefore, I went in to Hotel with some trepidation. I needn't have worried though as this album is ALMOST as good as Play. It changes moods throughout the record and works as a whole remarkably well. If you liked Play GET THIS.

Everything Is Wrong

by: Moby

Release Date October 16, 2000
This isn't consistently brilliant like Play or consistently good like 18, but it does have some simply outstanding material on it. The opening Hymm, for exapmple, and Into the Blue, God Moving Over the Face of the Waters and When it's Cold I like to Die. Those are the dreamy, whistful spacey ones. Also exceptional is Everytime You Touch Me, and I don't usually like that sort of thumping club music. It's tracks like All That I Need is to be Loved that I don't like. I find them discordant and jarring.

Animal Rights

by: Moby

Release Date October 16, 2000
This is to prove Moby wasn't always a man whose talent extends only as far as lifting old blues samples and grafting them onto bland corporate coffee-table music. This is to prove that Moby has a heart. At the time of this album's release, only two people in the UK ("The Big Issue", and a student paper in Coventry) wanted to review him. His name was dirt. He supported Soundgarden, and his own headline gigs brought in about 100 people. But why?

"Animal Rights" is about as far away as you can get from the Moby that you know & loathe. "Animal Rights" is a frantic 40 minute essay about how Everything is Wrong. Working almost entirely without guest musicians (a violin player appears on two songs), Moby created this demented, claustrophobic ... Read More:

The good tracks are very good, moby in classic form. The rest are fairly humdrum film tracks.

If your a fan however "Novio", "God Moving Over the Face of the Waters" and "New Dawn Fades" makes it worth buying on their own.

Go - the Very Best of Moby: Remixed

by: Moby

Release Date March 05, 2007
Having always been a fan of Moby's earlier productions, it was nice to see he's best of album getting the remixed treatment, to bring it bang up to date with today's sounds. And it's a good job. The remixes in question really do vary, and will satisfy many fans of different genres. Whether it the trance sound of Ferry Corsten, or the housier sound of Mylo and Sandy Rivera, there really is something for everyone.
