Release Date May 11, 1993
I decided to write this review because I was intrigued by the magazines reviews about the re-release of the Moby Grape albums.
If you buy this anthology - which is still easily available (notwithstanding what you may read on the contrary!) - you have an excellent introduction with the entire first album represented and therefore you can make your mind whether or not spend more money on the single albums.
Definitely recommended and then, once you've listened through the two CDS, you will decided if you want to hear more or not.
Great liner notes as well.
Release Date August 02, 1993

If you like Moby's melancholic instrumental pieces, then this is him at his peak. The first 3 tracks are stunning, if not in anyway groundbreaking (is Moby ever?), moving, simple electronic tunes. It loses its way a little in the middle before ending well. It's a good indication of where he was heading between the messy "Animal Rights" and the behemoth that was "Play". As Alan Partridge says "Lovely stuff!"

Since this is one MOBY's first CD's, one cannot be too tough on him. However, the term ambient (penned by Brian Eno in the Seventies) used to mean multi-layered, ethereal space/mood music. Moby keeps the layers and the moods, but the constant percussion (it's good) keep it from being anything but relaxing. This represents a good foreshadowing of what moby was to produce.
