...this album is excellent. The more you listen to it, the more you appreciate it. I can understand why some don't really rate this album but just turn it on and get lost in the eerie tranquility. In most places its a rather dark album but can also be uplifting at the same time. My words are meaningless so just have a listen and make up your own mind!

I saw Mogwai a couple of years back and I don't think they played anything off this album, which might suggest it isn't much cop. A couple of listens reveals the reason however: this is not a bunch of singles in the same way as Mr Beast or Happy Songs, this is a body of work that needs to be listened to as a whole to truly appreciate it. The mood is a mix of the melancholy and the sinister but it works surprisingly well. I find it is one of those album that withstands repeated listening - there is always something new to latch onto and there isn't a single minute of filler in the entire 70+ minutes. despite the fact that it is an E.P, this only has a single track. a rip off you might think. however this one track happens to be mogwai's 'my father, my king.' any fan of music, be it rock or orchestral, will savour this epic piece of emotional mayhem. from the almost inaudable guitar at the beginning, to the screaming ensemble of the peak, it never fails to impress. if you are interested in music, buy it. if you are a mogwai fan, you should have it already!
