The first two tracks alone are worth buying the album for. Outside of Pink Floyd and other Mogwai tracks these two tunes are untouchable. Keep it up guys.

I genuinely believe that the music Mogwai are creating right now amongst the best they have ever done.The title track,taken from the phenomenal album The Hawk Is Howling is a great example of heavy-Mogwai,on a par with 'Mogwai Fear Satan' or 'Glasgow Mega-Snake'.Second track Stupid Prick Gets Chased By The Police And Loses His Slut Girlfriend (No-one does titles like Mogwai!)is on the opposite end of the Mogwai sound,and has a much less linear structure than Batcat.It's just as good though.And,last but not least,comes Devil Rides,featuring Roky Erikson (most well known for the Thirteenth Floor Elevators' You're Gonna Miss Me).While some may have been hoping for some kind of unholy alliance between My Bloody Valentine and Red Temple Prayer,what we ... This is one fantastic album, containing some of Mogwai's finest moments. As this is Mogwai there are no fillers, but some of the tracks, such as Small Children in the Background, Rollerball, Burn Girl Prom Queen, Stanley Kubrick, and the awesome Superheroes of BMX, stand out as stone cold classics. Top dog though is the ten minute monster Xmas Steps. With beautiful opening guitar interplay slowly building to a stunning midsection, all brutal distortion and killer drumming, followed by a haunting violin comedown, this marks one of the defining moments of British music in the nineties. Brilliant stuff!

4 Satin Ep

When you start listening to this EP you are greeted with electronic drums and a wonderful almost ambient piece of music, but the further into the EP you get it becomes a little more dissapointing. The second track is nice, and the third track, stereodee, is about 2 minutes of pretty cool music which just end up as about 15 minutes of mad distortion, some crazy organ and near the end is some japan-esque techno music. Altogether its not quite what you'd expect if you'd heard anything else by Mogwai. Although, this EP is worth buying if you feel starved of their music and you've bought everything else they have to offer, if just for the first two and a bit songs.

...this album is excellent. The more you listen to it, the more you appreciate it. I can understand why some don't really rate this album but just turn it on and get lost in the eerie tranquility. In most places its a rather dark album but can also be uplifting at the same time. My words are meaningless so just have a listen and make up your own mind!
