And here we are with everyone's favourite scottish noisemakers with their first single to be taken from their upcomming new album. And... its all very nice and its all very pianoy and its all very Mogwai and its all very 'post rock'. And really thats about it. Well, no thats not it but Mogwai have not progressed very much since their last release. Which in a way was to be expected, which isnt really all that bad. This is by no means a bad song. Its just that it hasnt really done anything for me, maybe in the space of an album it will work better..but what do i know?. Ah well,what about the other three songs on this then?

Fresh Crown is better, again its based around a piano piece, with what sounds like a drum machine ... Read More:

Come on Die Young

I saw Mogwai a couple of years back and I don't think they played anything off this album, which might suggest it isn't much cop. A couple of listens reveals the reason however: this is not a bunch of singles in the same way as Mr Beast or Happy Songs, this is a body of work that needs to be listened to as a whole to truly appreciate it. The mood is a mix of the melancholy and the sinister but it works surprisingly well. I find it is one of those album that withstands repeated listening - there is always something new to latch onto and there isn't a single minute of filler in the entire 70+ minutes. Zidane: A 21st Century Portrait

...this album is excellent. The more you listen to it, the more you appreciate it. I can understand why some don't really rate this album but just turn it on and get lost in the eerie tranquility. In most places its a rather dark album but can also be uplifting at the same time. My words are meaningless so just have a listen and make up your own mind!

...this album is excellent. The more you listen to it, the more you appreciate it. I can understand why some don't really rate this album but just turn it on and get lost in the eerie tranquility. In most places its a rather dark album but can also be uplifting at the same time. My words are meaningless so just have a listen and make up your own mind!

Ten Rapid

Summer the first track is very interesting,as is helicon 2.Sadly helicon 1 and a lot of the other tracks are slightly bland much like youngteam,but unlike young team it has fewer good tracks ,.I personally recommend Mr.Beast or Happy Songs For Happy People.Good luck!!

The Hawk Is Howling

When Mogwai released 'Young Team' back in 1997, they were a breath of fresh air. They combined the rawness of Pavement circa 'Slanted & Enchanted' with the atmosphere so fondly remembered on Slint's milestone album 'Spiderland'.

11 years on from that landmark release and Mogwai have gone through many up's and downs. 'Come On Die Young' blew us all away with its blinding dynamics and sinister air, but conversley, 'Rock Action' left me with an empty feeling and made me wonder wheather this once great band had gone as far as it could. Since 'Rock Action', Mogwai have released a steady stream of good if not remarkable albums (although I beleive 'Happy Songs For Happy People' to be somewhat of a lost classic).

Kicking a Dead Pig

So different, like every Mogwai album. A wintery work of genius that allows you to experience the good stuff from a different perspective. The chill out tracks are perfection, and the Face the Future Remix is terrifying. The Fear Satan remix is simply bliss. Its just one more reason to live.

4 Satin

When you start listening to this EP you are greeted with electronic drums and a wonderful almost ambient piece of music, but the further into the EP you get it becomes a little more dissapointing. The second track is nice, and the third track, stereodee, is about 2 minutes of pretty cool music which just end up as about 15 minutes of mad distortion, some crazy organ and near the end is some japan-esque techno music. Altogether its not quite what you'd expect if you'd heard anything else by Mogwai. Although, this EP is worth buying if you feel starved of their music and you've bought everything else they have to offer, if just for the first two and a bit songs.
