I was lucky enough to have my boss buy me this album as lil surprise. I have all the other albums and have loved Moonspell for years...and then came Night Eternal...and blew them straight up in my books. The album is so well thought out and genius. I saw the videofor Scorpion Flower and was not exactly blown away as I thought of it as a bit of a Cradle of Filth Nymphetamine afterthought...but the song has grown on me and it is brilliant. Back to the album... just plain and simple...potent, powerfull and beautiful from the first note to the last. Stand out tracks for me: At Tragic Heights, Night Eternal, Dreamless, First Light(one of my fav songs ever). I would still say Antidote is my favourite...but this is right up there with it!

After the great success of 'Memorial', and the recent release of a best of compilation, MOONSPELL have gone back further into the archives to bring new life to their early material. 'Under Satanae' is a re-recording of the pre-Wolfheart material. In reverse date order the first six tracks are from the 'Under the Moonspell' EP (also the inspiration for the cover art), the next three tracks are from the 'Anno Satanae' demo, and ending with the pre-MOONSPELL 'Serpent Angel', their only release as MORBID GOD.
Upon receiving this album and the ominous feeling that a sacrilege had been committed, it seemed this album could go one of two ways. The first being a largely unaltered re-recording save for some much improved production ... Read More:

This truly is amazing stuff. Moonspell had long been classed as the band to listen to if you are into philosophical lyrics and deep, meaningful music, but this went above and beyond anything Moonspell fans could have hoped for.
1. Perverse... Almost Religious - A dramatic instumental intro. A taste of things to come... 2. Opium - A song based on Fernando Pessoa's Opiário poem. The first and only single from Irreligious. Great lyrics. Very hard to get out of your head. 3. Awake! - An unsettling piece of music with a dark chorus. 4. A Taste of Eternity - A downright aggresive song from the start. Very heavy and with a clear lyrical message. 5. Ruin & Misery - "Another name for Love and another name for death". This is an ... Read More:

I first became interested in Moonspell after I heard "Alma Mater" and "Vampiria", which is why I decided to buy this album. These are the 2 best songs on the album, but there are no bad songs and the whole thing is worth a listen. Moonspell's music is in somewhat the same vein as Cradle of Filth's earlier music: gothic metal with some black metal leanings. Several of the songs utilise more melodic techniques such as female vocals (particularly on "Love Crimes") and keyboards. "Wolfshade" is one of the best songs on the album with a fantastic riff and a great atmosphere. "Vampiria" is a fairly self explanatory gothic masterpiece with haunting vocals and a fantastically catchy riff. "Alma Mater" remains one of Moonspell's most famous and popular songs, ... Read More:

This was the second moonspell album I bought after Sin/Pecado. So imagine my surprise upon hearing this cd. Gone are lighter more melodic rock anthems, replaced by what can only be described as absolutely, monsterously heavy dark/goth metal. It is almost a polar opposite of its predecessor. The cd showcases fast paced and mega slow/detuned music in a way that is dark, seductive and brutal. Ribeiro's vocals are stunning as he screams Lustmord or lustily breathes Can't Bee. There is no weak track on this offering. Butterfly effect will always be in my top ten in a collection of over 700 rock cds, that is testament to the sheer strength of material on offer here.
