This 40-track 2-disc set is a comprehensive collection of Mungo Jerry's hits and best album tracks. This UK band first made the charts in 1970 with their addictive bubblegum boogie hit In The Summertime, a song that took the world by storm with its simple hypnotic riffs and catchy tune that made the top ten on both sides of the Atlantic.

The following year they scored big again with Baby Jump, Lady Rose and You Don't Have To Be In The Army To Fight In The War, all catchy numbers with the same buoyant pop rhythms, engaging hooks and soulful vocals as In The Summertime. In 1973 they had more hits with Alright Alright Alright and Long Legged Woman Dressed In Black.

This 3-CD beauty contains over 60 tracks, comprising almost all the singles, maxi-singles, EPs and album tracks from their 1970-74 heyday, originally released on the Dawn label. It saw the ever-changing line-up evolve from a drummerless jug'n'rock band to a more heavy style, flirting with hard rock, glam, and unashamed rockabilly. You probably know the hits, but here's a chance to sample the more reflective album tracks as well, notably the poignant 'Coming Back To You When The Time Comes' and the Ray Davies-like (lyrically at least) 'Memoirs of a Stockbroker'. As ever, there are superb notes on the inlay sheet.

I'm really surprised that there hasn't yet been a review of this CD/album.

For anyone old enough to remember Mungo Jerry (and Ray Dorset - who didn't give up his job until "In The Summertime" got to Number 1) - this was classic good time 3 chord rock 'n' roll skiffle and an absolute pleasure to listen to! Very politically incorrect, I mean ... "If her dad is rich, take her out for a meal - if her dad is poor, just do what you feel" very sexist but very much of its time I feel. I loved the B-side "Mighty Man" too, I liked "Lady Rose", "Baby Jump" and doesn't this prove that he did "San Francisco Bay Blues" long before the "Unplugged" Eric Clapton.

All in all, one I can personally recommend, if you like good time music ... Read More:
