It just amazes me each time I listen to this album. The enormous talent. The versatility. The sheer inventiveness.
It follows a succession of albums that have got better and better. I was so taken aback by Origin of Symmentry and when I saw Muse live I was so speechless at how talented Matthew Bellamy is. But this album.....
It's everything about it. You can hear the orchestral basis for so many of these songs translated into unbelievable howling guitars. The powerful and poignant lyrics. The inventiveness.
See them live when you can and see how amazing this band is. They are incredible.
Release Date September 22, 2003
This is not their best album, worth listening to, definitely. I would urge you to buy it but if it's a choice of different muse albums go for Black Holes and Revelations. Very good lyrics and the songwriting is upto scratch as usual. Still very good.
Release Date August 27, 2003
Are you a Muse Fan? If you're thinking of buying this album then you are either a Muse fanatic already, or you will be very soon, and if you haven't heard any of these songs already then I envy you - you are in for one crazy audio thrill-ride.
What's so great about this album is it's originality - it takes our usual idea of what rock music is and turns it on its head, electrocutes it, sticks it in a blender and then stuffs it down your throat, much to your masochistic glee. The music is dark, vicious and incredibly addictive, and by the time you've heard Bliss, with its ethereal arpeggios and super high voltage riffs, you will be hooked to the end. It's super badass.
Pretty much every song is unbelievable in its own right. Muse pull no stops ... Read More:

Although I have loved Muse for a few years, I wasn't very interested in their debut. I could hear potential but the songs I knew a little bit about sounded like they were written by less accomplished musicians or inexperienced men who had less to say. However, I got into this album when I began to change my mind about the track, 'Muscle Museum'. I took a chance and bought 'Showbiz' as it was only £6 and I am SO glad I did.
This has to be one of the best debut albums ever composed. It is almost as musically impressive as Jeff Buckley's 'Grace' and, like Buckley's debut, the songs grow on you all the time which makes the album very addictive. The Muse sound is less original, of course, as it was less developed at the time, but the material is still very ... Read More:

The idea of a collection of B-sides is unusual, but with Muse, it strangely works... maybe because all they're music is so bloody good anyway....
(isn't it funny how we still say "B-sides" even though we're talking about CD's and not records?)
Contrary to other reviewers, i thought Forced In was actually the perfect start to the disc, followed by similarly good music that managed to be both interestingly original yet incredibly easy to listen to. There wasn't a single bad song on it as far as i was concerned. I'm also becoming addicted to Hyper Chondriac Music - a really mellowed out version of Hyper Music. it's about 5 minutes of just pure goodness. but in a twisted, dark, Muse kind of way... which is a good thing.

Incorporating comments on previous reviews..
Firstly, the music is excellent and if you don't own it, then buy it without concern.
To offer nasty comment on this cd/dvd is purile.
Everyone knows how the music industry works by now. First you get the regular release, then the live or bonus or extra cd/dvd release.
Don't complain about the three extra tracks on this cd/dvd.
Surely purchasers know what they are buying before they buy it. If people are buying blind, then they should not feel cheated when they don't get what they want. It really is that simple.
Let us not lose sight of the bottom line. And that is the music. The extras are all very well, but the original release is normally all you will need. Unless you are a collector or a completist of some kind, and ... Read More:

Just to make it clear, the difference between this version and the standard version are:
1: This version comes in a deluxe card box rather than the standard jewel case.
2: This version also contains 3 limited edition cards (one of each band member).
THIS VERSION DOES NOT HAVE EXTRA TRACKS AS SOME PEOPLE HAVE BEEN SAYING
therefore I would say that unless you are an absolute fanatic who has to have all the limited edition stuff then the standard edition is fine. On the Dvd itself the concert is excellent but a bit disappointed that the "backstage footage" is only 10 mins long. good though.
